Shirley Kamimura

Shirley Ann Shizue Kamimura, 70, of Mililani, Oahu, formerly of Hilo, died Aug. 11, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Oct. 22, 1948, in Honolulu, she was a retired Waiakea Elementary School teacher, member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Hawaii State Teachers Association-Retired, National Education Association-Retired and former member of Ahualani Community Association and Hilo Adult Tennis League.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by husband, Russell Kamimura of Mililani, Oahu; daughter, Lori Kamimura of Hilo; son, Wade (Jan) Kamimura of Aiea, Oahu; brother, Gay (Maria) Miyakawa of Mililani, Oahu; sister, Carol Ann Miyakawa of Honolulu; two grandchildren, a nephew and nieces.

Monte Gonzales

Monte Edward Gonzales, 65, of Pahoa, died July 5, 2019, in Waimea. Born in Salzburg, Austria, he was a drilling rig worker with Water Resources and the Parker Drilling Co., and a member of the Hilo Missionary Church.

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Aug. 31 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by brother, Dennis “Gonzy” (Mona) Gonzales of Pepeekeo; sister, Ingrid “Lani” (John) Morris of Kamuela; former wife, Teri Nishimura; cousins, nieces, nephews, stepchildren and step grandchildren.

LaVerne Lewis

LaVerne Leionaona Lewis, 73, of Hilo, died June 20, 2019, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Keaukaha, she was a caregiver, an attendant at the former Waiakea Theater and a member of the Panaewa Hawaiian Homes Land Community Association and the Keaukaha Horseshoe Club.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Aug. 31 at Puhi Bay in Keaukaha. Celebration of life ceremony at 11 a.m. Scattering of her ashes will follow at Puhi Bay. The family requests aloha/casual attire or green colored clothing be worn; flowers and lei are welcome.

She is survived by daughter, Laura Ann L. “Laurie” “Pake” Doria of Hilo; son, George K. Lewis of Hilo; brother, Eric K. (Diane) Kela of California; sister, Patience K. (Samson) Brown of Hilo; sister-in-law; daughters-in-law; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.

Emily Keohuloa

Emily Lorraine Keohuloa, 87, of Pahala, died on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahala, she was a retired housekeeper, member of Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church; Pahala Senior Citizens Club; and American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 31 at Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Pahala Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by daughters, Janice Noble of Hilo, Arlene (J.R. Palacat) Keohuloa of Kona, Rima (Dennis) Rocha of Keaau and Nadia (Kenneth Enitan) Keohuloa of Pahala; daughter-in-law; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Herman Carvalho

Herman Nelson Carvalho, 62, of Hilo, died Aug. 2, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a bicycle repairman and a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Kamuela.

He is survived by spouse, Donna Carvalho of Hilo; mother, Patsy Goveia of Kona; father, Mello Balgas of Honolulu; brothers, Ronald (Elema) Carvalho of Kona, Dennis Balgas of Kona, and Michael Mercado of Ocean View; two sisters, Dolly (Candance) Sanchez of Kona, and Debra (Koko) Mercado of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret Meyer

Margaret “Margee” Frances Meyer, 78, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 21, 2019, at her residence. Born Aug. 2, 1941, in New York, New York, she was a retired teacher, Sunday School teacher and member of Living Stones Church, co-founder of King of Kings School in Middletown, N.J., volunteer seamstress for Dress a Girl, first mate for “Akua Aloha” and life member of the Shrewsbury River Yacht Club in Fair Haven, N.J.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Living Stones Church on Alii Drive. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be sent to Living Stones Church, P.O. Box 4205, Kailua-Kona.

She is survived by husband, Robert Meyer, Sr.; daughter, Margaret Lynn Meyer both of Kailua-Kona; son, Robert Meyer, Jr. of New Jersey; sisters, Linda (Robert) Patterson all of New Jersey, Lillian (Peter) Satterlee of Florida; hanai sons, Adam (Juliette) Lysiak, Jeffery (Laura) Lysiak all of Florida two grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Chang

Mrs. Dorothy Fusae Kihara Chang, 97, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 4, 2019. Born June 17, 1922, in Mahukona, she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Viewing will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 31 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kona Stake Center in Kailua-Kona; followed by funeral service at 11 a.m.; interment will be at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, W. Guy (Teresa) Chang of Salem, Utah and Michael R. (Kimberley) Chang of Kailua-Kona; sister, Carole Tohara of Hawi; brothers, George (Harriet) Kihara of Honolulu; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ako Chang.

Harry Waahila II

Harry Kalikookalani Waahila II, 48, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 23, 2019, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Sept. 8, 1970 in Kealakekua, he was a construction laborer, member of Hope Chapel Kailua-Kona and Hawaii Laborers Union Local 368.

Aki Takeguchi

Aki Takeguchi, 96, of Hilo, died Aug. 8, 2019 in the Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation &Nursing Center. She was born in Paauilo, on Aug. 8, 1923 and was a member of the Hilo Meishoin Buddhist Temple, Meishoin Fujinkai and Yamaguchi Kenjinkai.

Private services held. No flowers. No Koden (monetary offerings).

She is survived by sons, Milton (Ethel) Takeguchi of Temecula, California and Sidney (Patsy) Takeguchi of Hilo; daughters, Joyce (Russell) Inaba of Mililani and Amy (Thomas) Kekahio of Hilo; sister, Sue Daimaru of Hilo; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Robert Souza

Robert William Souza, 62, of Waikoloa, died Aug. 21, 2019 at the North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu on April 3, 1957, he was a hotel manager at the Hale Koa in Honolulu and a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

Visitation will be held 9-10:45 a.m. Sept. 7, 2019 at Our Lady of Good Counsel at 1525 Waimano Home Rd., Pearl City, Oahu. Mass will begin at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Souza of Waikoloa; daughter, Alana Souza and son, William Souza of Oahu; brother, Patrick (Melyssa) Sosa of Maui; sister, Cheryl (Gregg) Leyson of Oahu; one granddaughter; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dale Seagoe

Dale Albert Seagoe, 78, of Volcano, died May 3, 2019, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. He was born in Crescent City, Calif. and was a retired mill worker.

Melvin “Mel” A. Regli Jr., 65, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 23, 2019, at his residence. Born Sept. 9, 1953 in Marysville, California, he was a retired farmer.

Chieko “Clara” Okano, 92, of Volcano, died July 30, 2019 at home. Born Sept. 4, 1926, in Kurtistown, she was a retired waitress for Volcano House.

Kamaka Yamamoto

Kamaka Yamamoto, 80, of Hilo, died Aug. 16, 2019 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 28, 1938 in Kapaau. He was a security guard for Securitas and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Sept. 6 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo; Funeral Service at 10 a.m.; burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2 at 12 noon. Casual attire.

Florence Marques Botelho, 99, of Honokaa, died Aug. 21, 2019 at Life Care Center in Hilo. Born in Ahualoa, she was a telephone operator for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

A visitation will be held 8-10 a.m. Sept. 7 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa with a eulogy to be read at 9:45 a.m. and a Mass to follow at 10. Family requests casual attire.

She is survived by daughters, Milo (Frank) Ferreira of Honokaa and Dana (Steve) Morifuji of Honokaa; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Browning Adams, 79, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 20 at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born Nov. 30, 1939 in Santa Monica, California, he was a retired social worker for the Hawaii State Department of Human Services and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hilo.
