Waimea Town Meeting focus on community’s future

There are no crystal balls, but the Hawaii County General Plan update, currently in progress and open to community input, and the energy future of our district and island will top the agenda for Waimea Community Association’s Town Meeting from 5:15-7 p.m. Thursday in Waimea School Cafeteria. These two topics are complex and far-reaching and urgently warrant community awareness and input, said WCA Director Nancy Carr Smith, who will facilitate the meeting.

There is no charge but membership is urged to support ongoing association activities.

The meeting will begin with Hawaii County planning director Michael Yee and the department’s manager of long range planning, April Suprenant, will provide a brief presentation on the recently released Draft General Plan, which is available for public review and comment. The plan can be found here: (http://www.hiplanningdept.com/general-plan/gp2040/).

Also on the agenda will be the introduction of HELCO’s recently appointed president Sharon Suzuki, updates by Waimea County Council members Val Poindexter and Dr. Tim Richards and presentations will include Waimea Outdoor Circle.
