Newbery Quiz Bowl is recruiting

The Newbery Quiz Bowl (NQB) is an annual competition unique to Hawaii Island that celebrates readers and the best of children’s literature.

Teams of students in the fourth through seventh grades are tasked with reading, comprehending, and remembering content from a rotating list of 40 Newbery Award-winning chapter books each year.

If you are interested in taking on this literary challenge as a Library team member, the Page Masters, attend the informational meeting held 5-8 p.m. at the Kailua-Kona Public Library.

Sept. 4 blood drives a success

The Blood Bank of Hawaii’s Sept. 3-4 blood drives were a success, volunteers say. The next drives are Nov. 6 at the LDS church in Kealakekua, and Nov. 6 at the LDS stake center in Kona.
