Literacy Fest at Kealakehe Elementary

Kealakehe Elementary School will be hosting “Literacy Fest,” a community celebration of reading and writing, 4-6 p.m., Sept. 25, on its campus at 74-5118 Kealakaa St., Kailua-Kona.

This fun family event will include informational displays by community organizations/businesses, read-alouds by community members, literacy games, reader’s theater, displays of student work, a used book giveaway and a prize raffle. Don’t miss this fun family event celebrating all aspects of literacy!

S.O.S. supply drive gearing up

The Friends of the Children of West Hawaii’s annual S.O.S. (Supply Our Students) School Supply Drive is collecting and distributing school supplies to children in need in West Hawaii. More than 100 students entering grades pre-K to 12th will be given brand-new backpacks, filled with the supplies they will need for the upcoming school year.

Sponsors and supporters include Kona Commons Shopping Center, Keauhou Shopping Center, and Walmart for hosting school supply collection events for the project during June and July; KTA Kona, OfficeMax, and Costco for generous donations to the project; and individuals, families, and business groups.
