Elizabeth Millare

Elizabeth Young Millare, 91, of Kukuihaele, died Sept. 16, 2019, at the family’s residence. Born Feb. 4, 1928, in Waipio Valley, she was a homemaker and member of the Honokaa Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Honokaa Seventh Day Adventist Church. Celebration of life will begin at 4 p.m. followed by urn burial in the church’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Kona or Honokaa Seventh Day Adventist Church. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by her sons, Presley (Deborra) Millare of San Jose, Calif., Scott Millare of Temecula, Calif.; daughters, Dayna (Dan) Braun of Virginia Beach, Va., Maycel Sakamoto of Kukuihaele, Doreen Salomon of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Henry (Barbara) Young and Clarence (Sakiko) Young of Honolulu, Tyrone (Beverly) Young and Raymond (Shirley) Young of Kailua-Kona; sister, Bertha Chu Hing of Aiea, Oahu; one brother-in-law; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Akira Yanagida

Akira Yanagida, 95, of Hilo, died Aug. 12, 2019, in the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born July 24, 1924, in Hilo, he was retired from the former Hilo Construction, Inc. as an iron worker, a United States Army veteran who served in World War II.

Visitation will be held 3-4 p.m. Sept. 29 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. Memorial service. Casual attire is requested. No flowers.

He is survived by wife, Thelma Yanagida of Hilo; sons, Akira Mark Yanagida of Hilo and Scott (Lynn) Yanagida of Seattle; daughter, Alice (Mark) Shigehara of Hilo; three grandchildren; numerous cousins.

Wray Kondo

Wray Hikaru Kondo, 68, of Honolulu, died June 17, 2019, at Kuakini Medical Center. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired attorney for Watanabe Ing.

Services were held in Honolulu.

He is survived by his wife, Amy; sons, Ryan and Jordan; brother, Maurice (Deborah Quigley); and sister, Arlene (Ben) Matsubara.

Robert Stanley De Motta Sr.

Robert Stanley De Motta Sr., 87, of Hilo, died Aug. 22, 2019, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Center in Hilo. Born Sept. 9, 1931, in Hilo, he retired as a pantry 1 at Hawaii Naniloa Hotel.

Memorial service will be held Sept. 27 at Ballard Family Mortuary, 570 Kinoole St. in Hilo. Visitation is at 1 p.m., service at 1:30 p.m. Burial to follow 3 p.m. at Mauna Kea Memorial Park.

He is survived by sons, Robert S. De Motta Jr. of Hilo, Jonathan Henry De Motta of Honolulu; daughter Roberta “Cookie” (John) De Motta-Cuban of Mountain View; nine grandchildren

Abrahm Bernard

Abrahm “Abe” Phillip Bernard, 50, of Puna and Honolulu, died May 30, 2019, in California. Born on Oct. 8, 1968, in Honolulu, he was the care center manager for all of Hawaiian Memorial Life Plan firms: Borthwick Mortuaries (Oahu and Kauai), Ballard Family Mortuaries (Oahu, Maui and Big Island) and Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery and Funeral Services (Oahu).

Memorial service/celebration of life will be Oct. 5 at Ballard Family Mortuary-Hilo, 570 Kinoole St. Hilo. Visitation at 10:30 a.m., service at 11 with lunch and fellowship to follow at noon. Casual attire, flowers are welcomed.

He is survived by father, Ronald Bernard of Oahu; mother, Ida Malakaua of Pahoa; brothers, Ronald (Maka) Bernard Jr. of Hilo, Lawrence Pahukoa of Hilo, Charles Pahukoa of Hilo; sisters Tanya (Donovan) Hegarty of Waimea, and Kaui Alexander of Hilo, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

AJ McDanold

AJ McDanold, 91, of Waikoloa, died Sept. 17, 2019, at his residence. Born May 29, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Mich., he was a retired realtor, developer, farmer, member of Kona Lions Club, generous contributor to Keauhou Canoe Club and Hulihee Palace. He was also a US Navy veteran.

A hoolaulea in celebration of his life and paddle-out scattering of ashes will be held 9 a.m. Oct.19 at Keauhou Bay. Family requests aloha attire to be worn. Loose flowers welcome.

He is survived by daughter, Debra (Marshall) Stutts; sons, Douglas McDanold all of Waikoloa, Randall McDanold of Pahoa; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Raymond Dion

Raymond Dean Dion, 65 of Hilo, died Sept. 8, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1953, he was a correctional officer, and a member of the Elks Club. He also served in the United State Marine Corps.

Service will be held Oct. 1 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Hilo, 570 Kinoole St. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., service is at 10:30 and burial will follow at noon at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery No. 2 at 110 Laimana Street in Hilo.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Ann Dion; son, Keola Keanaaina; daughters, Nuala Taylor, Nohea-Minei Keanaaina; brother, Michael Dion; sister, Lisa Dion; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
