Melvin “Mel” Douglas Revilla, 73, of Hilo, died Sept. 8, 2019, at home. Born on Jan. 16, 1946, in Papaaloa, he was a retired lumber buyer for HPM Building Supply and a U.S. Army veteran.
Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Sept. 30 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, Hilo. Memorial service is at 10 a.m.; graveside inurnment at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Columbarium. Casual attire and no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Carol Revilla of Hilo; daughter, Traci (Aubrey Pabon) Revilla of Valdosta, Georgia; brothers, Tyrone (Wilma) Revilla of Honomu and Modesto (Teresita) Revilla, Jr. of Hilo; sister, Charmaine (William) Ige of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Rosaline Revilla of Hakalau and Thelma Revilla of Mountain View.

Marie Jane Mendes
Marie Jane Mendes, 84, of Pahoa, died on Aug. 16, 2019, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born in Honolulu and was a cook with the Wheeler Child Development Center and a member of Church On A Sure Foundation.

She is survived by sons, Patrick (Celeste) Mendes of Hilo and Ronald James Mendes of Honolulu; daughters, Raeleen (Alfred, Jr.) Yadao of Pahoa, Cheryl (Carl) Kaleugher and Madeline Pauline Mendes of Honolulu; sister, Rita Stair of the mainland; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sawako Yano
Sawako Laura Yano, 89, of Kealakekua, died July 30, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 9, 1930, in Hilo, she was a dietary cook at the Kona Hospital and member of Kanaueue Kumiai.
She is survived by her daughters, Jocelyn (Clyde) Sakata of Kealakekua and LuAnn (Jonathan) Flores of Rescue, Calif.; son, Brad (Sunok) Yano of Honolulu; brother, John Araki of Waianae, Oahu; sister, Betsey (Robert) Ban of Captain Cook; one grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Private services were held.

Howard Ransom, Jr.
Howard Raymond Ransom, Jr., of Holualoa, died Sept. 10, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 29, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio, he was a retired building contractor for Alert Enterprises, and member of National Association Veterans, president of Worldwide Media, president of Ransom Records and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Ransom of Holualoa; sons, Kim Lee Ransom of China, Timothy Raymond Ransom of Holualoa Terry Lynn Ransom of Los Angeles, Anthony Howard of Kailua-Kona; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Ronald Takahata
Ronald Masami Takahata, 95, of Hilo, died Aug. 19, 2019, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Pahala, he was a businessman and proprietor of the former Quality Auto Supply in Hilo, U.S. Army World War II Military Intelligence Service veteran and member of Hilo Interpreters Club, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii Island Kumamoto Doshikai and Y’s Men’s, also AJA, Keaau Seniors, Pioneers and Wanderers Golf Clubs and Papaikou Hongwanji and Kamana Karaoke Clubs.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
He is survived by wife, Elaine Takahata of Hilo; son, Terrence Takahata of Honolulu; daughters, Marcia (Wesley) Shimokawa of Lihue, Kauai, Joan (Dr. Bryan) Ito of Hilo; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph Kalima, Jr.
Joseph Nohea Kalima, Jr., 63, of Hilo died Aug. 24, 2019. Born in Hilo and was a freelance artist, a special needs and conflict behavioral specialist and a volleyball and paddling coach.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Aloha attire.
He is survived by sons, Joseph Nohea Kalima III, Jonah Nohili Kalima and Joshua No’eau Kalima of Hilo; daughter, Joelle Nohealani Kalima of Hilo; mother of his children, Shanette Naumu of Kauai; mother, Leinani Kalima of Hilo; father, Joseph Nohea Kalima Sr. of Hilo; brother, Nathan Kalani Kalima of Hilo; sisters, D. Raymond Dion
Raymond Dean Dion 65, died Sept. 8, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Nov. 6, 1953, he retired as a correctional officer, and a member of the Elks Club. He also served in the United State Marine Corps.
Service will be held Oct. 1 at Ballard Family Mortuary Hilo, 570 Kinoole St. Visitation is at 9:30 a.m., service 10:30 and burial to follow at Hawaii State Veterans No 2 at 110 Laimana St.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Ann Dion; son, Keola Keanaaina; daughters, Nuala Taylor, Nohea-Minei Keanaaina; brother, Michael Dion; sister Lisa Dion; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Lousia Mamac
Mrs. Lousia “Dollie” Luciano Mamac, 80, of Honalo, died Sept. 10, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 12, 1938, in Hilo, she was a housekeeper at Life Care Center of Kona and the former Kona Lagoon Hotel, worked at the former Cap’s Drive Inn and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Oct. 5 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Kelvin) Freitas of Kailua-Kona, Deborah Mamac of Kainaliu, Donna Mamac of Honalo, Norma (Jacob) Wong, Sr. and Alfreda (Darren) Akao of Kailua-Kona; sister, Estrella Estillore of Mainland; two sisters-in-law; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Olivia A. Satomba, 91, of Hilo, died Sept. 15, 2019, at a private care home. Born on Nov. 15, 1927, in Ninole, she was a retired factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company.

Robert Lawson
Robert “Bob” Gene Lawson, 81, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 23, 2019, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born July 26, 1938, in Eugene, Ore., he was a retired business owner, former car salesman for Orchid Isle Ford Motors, a race car builder and charter member of Kona Elks Lodge #2616.
