The Makeke Maoli is a pop-up market featuring Hawaii Island artisans from noon to 5 p.m. at the Luana Lounge at Fairmont Orchid. Complimentary and self-parking is free for this event as well.

Hilo hosting job fair, workshop

The American Job Center Hawaii (AJCH) will be hosting a Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Edith Kanakaole Multi-Purpose Stadium in Hilo. This event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending are encouraged to come prepared with resumes and dressed professionally as interviews may be done on site.

The AJCH will also be hosting a Job Readiness Workshop 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Aunty Sally’s Luau Hale.

Punawai ‘O Pu‘uhonua awarded $40M in tax credits

Punawai ‘O Pu‘uhonua, LLC (POP), a Hawaii-based Community Development Entity responsible for the management of New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) that support the creation of jobs, goods and services in low-income communities, has been awarded an allocation of $40 million in NMTC from the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund.

The 2018 award marks the third NMTC allocation awarded to POP, bringing the total amount awarded to $135 million. In 2012 POP received a $40 million allocation, which was deployed into three projects: construction of the new campus of the West Hawaii Community Health Center; the renovation of the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel; and a clean energy project in Waianae and Pearl City with Forest City Sustainable Resources, LLC.
