Kealakehe Transfer Station, West Hawaii Sanitary Landfill to close Saturday for Ironman

KAILUA-KONA — The West Hawaii Sanitary Landfill and the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station will be closed all-day Saturday due to road closures that will be in place for the Ironman World Championship Triathlon.

The Hawaii County Department of Environmental Management said the closure at the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station in Kailua-Kona will affect all services, including residential trash disposal, HI-5 redemption, two-bin recycling, green waste recycling, the Re-Use Store, and mulch pick-up.

Alternative services for residential trash disposal, and two-bin recycling will be available Saturday at the Keauhou Recycling and Transfer Station.

Regular operations at the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station will resume 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The West Hawaii Sanitary Landfill in Waikoloa will resume its normal schedule and reopen on Monday from 7 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
