Unaffiliated public shouldn’t be punished

The Maunakea Access Road is blocked at its Saddle Road terminus by state law enforcement personnel (DOCARE) who state they are acting under the orders of DLNR Chairperson Suzanne Case and Gov. David Ige. The eastern regions of the island’s largest and popular hunting area, the Maunakea Forest Reserve, is accessed at Hale Pohaku, just below the Visitor Center, from the currently blocked Maunakea Access Road.

The upland game bird hunting season opens the first weekend in November. In past opening weekends, 500 hunters have traditionally accessed the mountain’s forest reserve, somewhat less than half entering at currently blocked Hale Pohaku. Will they all now jam up the mountain’s western access at 17-mile distant Kilohana, where increased density will decrease hunter safety?

Why is the hunting community and other law-abiding citizens seeking access to public lands, who have no stake in the telescope controversy, being punished for the state government’s inability to resolve the matter? Its performance to date is disappointing. The people deserve better.

Hillary seems bitter, not insightful

In Tuesday’s letter to the editor, it seems as though John Pierce is a Hillary Clinton fan and does not care for Tulsi Gabbard. It appears that Hillary is still carrying a grudge after losing the 2016 presidential bid and possibly Mr. Pierce is also upset with this.

Hillary threw Bernie Sanders under the bus in that election, but that is her style. Now she is still bitter and lashing out to anyone and anything with her snide remark about Ms. Gabbard being groomed by the Russians.

She needs to apologize for making this remark. What we would like to know is, how does Hillary know this and furthermore, how does Mr. Pierce know this? Did Hillary send him a secret email, comrade?

With this in mind we have one additional observation, Hillary Clinton does not have the right temperament to be President of the United States ever!

Mauna use can be tremendous benefit

There is an asteroid hurtling around the universe at thousands of miles per hour. Its size and trajectory as yet is undetermined. One thing is certain. At some point it will impact our planet again.

Most of, if not all of, life as we know it will end.

In gazing up towards the heavens and adding to the knowledge of the stars passed down from our ancestors, we may discover that asteroid. We must utilize the best location on Earth to benefit all of mankind.

If such an event should occur mankind will disappear. But the mauna will still be here. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
