Kailua Village Artists featuring Kathleen Jaeger in November
Kathleen Jaeger will be showing art depicting plants and flowers, rendered in several mediums during her month as the Featured Artist at the Kailua Village Artists Gallery in November.
She will feature specific flowers of Hawaii, flowers inspired by tropical vegetation, and others that have emerged spontaneously from what is in her head. She will show these works in mosaic, acrylic painting, pen and ink and painted glassware.
Jaeger holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Phillips University and a MsEd in special education for emotionally disturbed children and youth from the University of Kansas. She spent her mainland career working within the public schools teaching art and as art therapist in alternative settings for special needs students, specifically behaviorally disordered/emotionally disturbed populations. Upon her retirement she and her husband, Bill moved to the Big Island.

Baltimore Consort celebrates 40th anniversary
Early Music Hawaii welcomes the Baltimore Consort to Kona for a Sunday concert in Kealakekua.
The performance will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Queen Emma Community Center, Christ Church Episcopal, Konawaena Road, in Kealakekua.
The Baltimore Consort has delighted audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, earning their CDs a place on the Billboard Magazine Top 10 list. The Baltimore Consort’s arrangements of early music from England, Scotland, France, Italy, and Spain speak to the heart as well as the mind, and their love for the early music of English/Scottish heritage has led them to delve into the rich trove of traditional balladry and dance tunes.
The Kona performance will bring Adew Dundee, Early and Traditional Music of Scotland. The “Scotch Humor” has enchanted music lovers for hundreds of years. The consort explores music of Scotland from 400 years ago while also tracing the thread of traditional Scottish Song which followed the migrations of Scottish farmers and artisans to the New World. Blue Sea Artisans names Richard Rochkovsky November featured artist
The Blue Sea Artisans featured artist for the month of November is plein air artist Richard Rochkovsky.
Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and minor in art from the University of Virginia in 1972, Rochkovsky subsequently became a licensed architect in Virginia, Washington and Hawaii.
Rochkovsky has been coordinator of “Painting Out There” (aka West Hawaii Plein Air (Painters) for a few decades. The Group paints on site at locations from Honaunau to Kawaihae every Friday from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., with a critique of that day’s work after. Painters are encouraged to finish a piece in one session’s time and given direction when asked.

Upcoming fundraiser benefits SKEA
The Society for Kona’s Education &Art hosts Da Kine Wine, a fundraiser for the nonprofit, on Nov. 16 in Honaunau.
The event runs from 5-8 p.m. at SKEA’S campus in Honaunau.
Enjoy a relaxing evening under the tents at SKEA. Attendees will enjoy supper donated by area restaurants and home chefs, paired with some great wines. There will be live music by Future Tides and a live auction.

Kona Choral Society announces annual Holiday Concert Series
The Kona Choral Society has announced in annual Holiday Concert Series featuring two concerts, as well as a performance by the Youth Chorus.
The annual Joy to the World Community Concert on Nov. 29 will feature the KCS Adult and Youth Choruses, Artistic Director Susan McCreary Duprey, Youth Chorus Director Wendy Buzby, Pianist Gloria Juan, the Kona Brass Quintet, and other talented instrumentalists from around the island.
The Repertoire includes music from Argentina, Canada, France, Japan, America, South Africa, and Hawaii. To top it off, the audience will get to join in and sing along to a few familiar Christmas carols.
The free event will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 St. Michael’s Church in Kailua-Kona. Donations are appreciated.
On Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. at the ‘Ohana Court at the University of the Nations, the chorus and orchestra, under the direction of McCreary Duprey, presents its annual performance of Part I of Handel’s Messiah. Joining the 100-member chorus will be four local soloists, and a 21-person orchestra and organ.
The first part of the program includes “For a Breath of Ecstasy,” a work by up-and-coming composer Michael John Trotta. This will be the Hawaii premier of this work and includes chorus, string quartet, and oboe.

Two days prior, on Dec. 6, the Kona Choral Society Youth Choruses under the direction of Wendy Buzby present “Simple Gifts,” a free holiday concert for the community.
Three choruses with children from grades K through 12 join together for this festive concert that’ll take place at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 77-165 Lako St., Kailua-Kona. The concert is free, but donations to the youth program will be accepted.
