Hula events at the Sheraton Kona Nov. 16
13th annual celebration of E Mau Ana Ka Hula – The Hula Is Perpetuated, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay. Kumu Hula and students from across the Hawaiian Islands, Europe and Japan will present their art of style and tradition of hula with either hula kahiko (ancient) or hula auana (modern) styles of dance. Each school will showcase the best integrity and quality of traditional hula steps, expressions, creativity, and adornments with costumes and stories that support the hula traditions.
Local arts and crafts vendors will be featuring quality handmade Hawaiian items, and ono food will be available too! Admission is free, so bring the family!
Eighth annual Hali’a Ka Nani – A Memory of the Beautiful Holoku, 6:30-9:30 p.m. Featuring stylish holoku gowns, delicious food, music, dancing and warm aloha, the group invites you to step out in style at the Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay. $50 per person includes Alii Keana’aina concert. Reserved seating. Tables of 10 available.

Kona Bridge Club October results
First place finishers for the ACBL Kona Bridge Club for the month of October are listed below. There are four players at each table, North and South are partners competing against the East and West partners for each bridge contract and are scored as such. Swiss teams are scored as a four-person team. The team wins points every time they win a round. There are overall winners after 4 rounds. On Monday there are two sections competing separately (novice and advanced). Kona Bridge Club hosts ACBL games on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays at 1 p.m. at the Makua Lani Academy.

Play it Forward tennis fundraiser coming in February
Family Support Hawaii will hold its sixth annual “Serve It Forward” tennis tournament at the Holua Tennis Center on Feb. 8-9, 2020. This tournament has grown significantly over the last four years. Submit tax-deductible donations by Jan. 17, 2020. All funds generated will benefit children and families on the Big Island.

Rotary Clubs begin scholarship efforts for 2019-2020
The Rotary Clubs of West Hawaii – Kona, Kona Mauka, Kona Sunrise and North Hawaii – are beginning scholarship efforts in West Hawaii for the 2019-2020 year. Interested students should contact their local high school college counselor to learn more about the various opportunities for Rotary-based scholarships. Community College students should contact the financial aid services office on their campus for more information.
The West Hawaii Rotary Clubs are committed to supporting the continuing education of our island’s residents either as they are just beginning their careers, or as they return to school as adults to continue their education. All of these efforts, and others, reflect Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self’.
