Lester Baldwin

Lester Norman Baldwin, 96, of Hilo, died Oct. 14, 2019, at home. He was born in San Jose, Calif.

He is survived by daughters, Nancy (Brent) Abe of Kaneohe, Barbara Eaton of Hilo, Jen Baldwin of Texas, and Shayna Baldwin of Washington; sisters, Kitty Kemner of Oregon and Joan Searles of Oklahoma; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Gloria Mills

Gloria Jean “Goldy” Ohuohuikeala Mills, 75, of Pahoa, died Oct. 25, 2019, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Honolulu, she was a cash handler for Binion’s Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas, a member of the Puna Baptist Chruch in Pahoa and a veteran of the US Navy.

She is survived by spouse, Doug Mills of Pahoa; daughter, Margaret (Paul) Gutierrez of Portland, Ore.; son, Robert Mele of Pahoa; brother, Carlton Damaso of Waikoloa; one grandchild.

Virginia Isbell

Virginia Isbell, 87, of Kealakekua, died Sept. 20, 2019, at her daughter’s residence on Oahu. Born on May 8, 1932, in Chinook, Mont., she served as member of the House of Representatives District 5 for 16 years and represented the 7th District on the Hawaii County Council and served as secretary of the Kona Soil and Water Conservation District’s board of directors. She was a member of the Soroptimist International of Kona, the Lions Club of Kona, Girl Scouts of Hawaii, Keauhou Canoe Club, Kai O Pua Canoe Club and LDS church.

A celebration of life will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 7 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona.

She is survived by her sons, David Isbell of Ocean View and Rick (Jamie) Isbell of Tavarua, Fiji; daughters, Mahealani (Patrick) Holzman and Iwalani (Gordon Noice) Isbell, all of Oahu; sister, Rowena Sargent of Spokane, Wash.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Lang Pahukula

Lang Kalae “Spanky” Kailiawa Pahukula 42, of Pahala, died Sept. 19, 2019, at Ka’u Hospital. Born May 28, 1977, in Pahala, he was a former employee at Royal Hawaiian Orchards in Pahala.

Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Nov. 9 at Pahala Holy Rosary Church. Visitations from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Burial to follow at church cemetery. Flower and leis are welcome.

Lang is survived by father, Leighton (marge) Pahukula Sr. of Pahala; son, Klaycin K. Pahukula of Naalehu; brother, Leighton Pahukula Jr. of Kohala; Hanani brother, Keoni (Brandy) Kailiawa of Waikoloa; numerous aunts, uncles, hanai nieces, hanai nephews, and cousins.

Wendy Oye

Wendy Tomiko Oye, 81, of Waimea, died Oct. 28, 2019, at her residence. Born Feb. 20, 1938, in Honokaa, she was a retired assistant in the admission office at the Kohala Hospital and a volunteer at the North Hawaii Community Hospital.

Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Kamuela Hongwanji Church in Waimea. Memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by her nephews, Rendell (Norma) Hirano of Kailua-Kona, Elmer (Debbie) Hirano of Oahu, Alton (Brandie) Oye of Kawaihae; nieces, Raelene (Don) Kleeman of Maui, Georgianne (Jon) Lawson of Kona, and Marvis (Lane) Yanagisawa of Kamuela; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Edward Matsumoto,

Edward “Eddie” Matsumoto, 83, of Kalaoa, died Oct. 1, 2019, on Oahu. He was a retired senior inspector mechanic for Aloha Airlines.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 9 at Matsumoto Ranch, 73-4290 Mamalahoa Highway in Kailua-Kona, or mile marker 33.

He is survived by siblings, James, Warren and Eileen; numerous nieces and nephews.
