La ku’oko’a free educational conference
Aha Kanaka Moku o Keawe is hosting a free and public educational seminar in celebration of La Kuokoa, the Hawaiian Kingdom Independence day. La Kuokoa is the the official day the Hawaiian Kingdom became the first non-European country to ever have official recognition as a sovereign independent nation by Britain and France. Scholars from across the island will speak on diverse topics surrounding Hawaii’s rich history, and current international status as a nation-state.
Speakers will include Dr. Keanu Sai, Professor Donovan Preza, Professor Kaleikoa Kaeo, Kumu Keali’i Akina, Kaui Sai-Dudoit, Kale Gumapac, and Halealoha Ayau. It will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the weekend of La Kuokoa, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at Kamehameha Schools in Keaau in the Hawaii Keawe Dining Hall.

Makaha Sons benefit concert for Kona Hospital Foundation
The Kona Hospital Foundation (KHF) is hosting The Makaha Sons as they play a benefit concert 7-9 p.m. Nov. 16.
Join The Makaha Sons as they perform their unique style of traditional Hawaiian music for one night only at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu. Proceeds benefit the Kona Community Hospital’s vKCH) Enhanced Pediatric Services Training Project, with a goal to make KCH the gold standard in Hawaii for outer island pediatric care.
