Mae Higashi

Mae Higashi, 79, Hilo, died Oct. 13, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Pearl City, Oahu, she was a CPA for Hawaii County, driver for Hertz and Budget Car Rental, shuttle driver for Hertz and volunteer at Aunty Sally’s.

Private services. Well wishes and condolence cards can be sent to Higashi Family, 580 Ainaola Drive, Hilo, HI 96720.

She is survived by sons, Sterling (Vickie) Higashi, Stuart Higashi, Stephen (Yuko) Higashi; grandsons, Dorian and Donovan Higashi; brother, Mike (Etta) Minakawa; one nephew and one niece.

Janet Stevens

Janet Keala Stevens, 86, of Waimea, died Sept. 17, 2019, at home. She was born in Honolulu and was the retired owner of the Paddock Shop, member of Ahahui Kaahumanu Society, Kalikokalehua Hula Studio and the Waimea Senior Citizens.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Nov. 16 at the Imiola Congregational Church, Waimea. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Private urn committal at a later date. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Walter L. “Lucky” (Auhea) Puhi and Duane E. K. Puhi of Waimea; hanai daughter, Sylvia Ngar of Arkansas; stepsons, Lance (U’i) Stevens and Lawrence (Makani) Stevens of Waimea; stepdaughters, Sharlynn (Toby) Taniguchi of Waimea and Ramona Trowbridge of Washington state; brothers, Apitai (Julie) Akau of Hilo and Alex (Toni) Akau of Waimea; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Anthony Walter Moniz, Sr.

Anthony Walter Moniz, Sr., 89, of Hilo, died Oct. 6, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a foreman with the HC &D Moving Co., a member of the Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church, Ancient Order of Foresters, Court Mauna Kea #8854, and a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Saturday Nov. 16 at the Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by sons, Anthony (Michelle) Moniz, Jr. and Kenneth Moniz of Hilo; daughters, Sabrina (David) Guyer and Luana Cox of Hilo; stepdaughters, Ginger Lorenzo of Honolulu, Thenia “Lynn” (Ernesto) Bautista of Hilo, Nina (Jake) Bernard of Alaska and Norma Livermore of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; sister, MaryAlice Matsumoto of Hilo; one brother-in-law; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
