Celtic Christmas: Harp Ensemble serenades with holiday season concert

KAILUA-KONA — The beauty of harp music will serenade the Pyramid House in Kona at 6 p.m. Dec. 7.

A spiritual experience where listeners can get in touch with themselves through the sounds of heavenly harps, the Spirit of Christmas and Solstice Celebration Concert is put on by the Harp Ensemble and feature world music from the English Renaissance, Irish Baroque, and contemporary works.

Among the harpists to perform will be Bernice Roberto, Madhavi Infinity and Irminsul and flutists Manuel Roberto and Jean Pierre Thoma.

Bernice Roberto is a professional harpist, music teacher and private instructor. She is also a composer, songwriter and vocalist, who performs regularly at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Hilton Waikoloa Village and Sheraton Kona Resort at Keauhou Bay.

Irminsul is a Celtic harpist, pianist and composer. He has traveled with many different music groups from classical to neo Celtic and has written music for piano, strings, woodwinds and orchestras.

Infinity is a songwriter composer from Estonia. She has been performed the Celtic harp in England, Scotland and Estonia.

On flutes is Manuel Roberto, a master of the wooden and bamboo flutes including the bansuri, shakuhachi and Native American flutes. He has studied with the greatest musicians in the world including, GS Sachdev, Zakinthos Husain and Pandit Jasraj and has composed music for theatre and television.

Also on flutes and other wind instruments is Jean Pierre Thoma, a world-traveled musician and educator. He performs on flute, saxophone and clarinet. Besides completing bachelor’s and master degree in music, he has performed in Europe, Japan, India and Africa. He currently teaches at the Pacific Music Academy in Hilo.
