Paint and Sip fundraiser Dec. 4 at Papa Kona
Artist Lisa Greenwell Hummel &LUVA Real Estate will be hosting a paint and sip fundraising event benefiting One Drop Foundation &Surf for Special Needs.
Hummel will be lead the artistic gathering 6-9 p.m. Dec. 4 at Papa Kona Restaurant, 75-5770 Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $50 for the paint and sip ticket.

WCC hosts 27th annual holiday concert
The Waimea Community Chorus will perform its 27th annual Holiday Concert Songs for the Holiday at Kahilu Theatre.
Two shows will take the stage, 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and 2 p.m. Dec. 14.
Under the direction of Barbara Kopra, this year’s featured composition is “An Appalachian Winter,” a Christmas Cantata composed by Joseph Martin. This work celebrates the legacy of early American carols and hymns. Composed in the spirit of folk music, the cantata combines traditional sounds with more rustic elements creating a blend that is fresh and pleasing.
The second half of the evening’s performance will feature two Hebrew pieces, Avinu Malkenu and Al Hanissim, as well as several popular holiday songs with an audience sing-a-long.
From first time performers to well-seasoned vocalists, this year the Waimea Community Chorus has 65 members ranging in age from 16 to 86 who all share a passion for singing. Joining the singers onstage will be 20 instrumentalists from around the Big Island as they accompany the chorus members and get us ready for the holiday spirit.

Pua Na Pua Art Festival Dec. 14
Full Life Hawaii, Abled Hawai’i Artists – AHA and Donkey Mill Art Center announce the fourth annual Pua Na Pua Art Festival, empowering people of all abilities to explore self-employment through the arts.
The art fair 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 14 in the Lanihau parking lot is the first of its kind in West Hawaii, and will inclusively celebrate the contributions of both developmentally-disabled (DD) and non-DD artists, with booths available to artists of all abilities. The event will feature arts, crafts, live holiday music, photos with Santa, sensory booths, a silent auction, KWXX Treasure Chest and more!

Tree lighting kicks off holiday in village
Historic Kailua Village rings in the holiday season with special events and activities beginning with the tree lighting Nov. 29 as Kailua Kalikimaka brings in a sleigh full of holiday cheer.
Kailua Village Business Improvement District begins the festivities at 5:45 p.m. with the lighting of the Christmas tree at Emma’s Square across from Hulihee Palace.
The tree lighting tradition gets started at 5:45 p.m. Special musical guest Darlene Ahuna performs classic holiday favorites with dancers from Halau E Hulali Mai I Ka La performing hula. Plan for a festive selfie spot with Miss Kona Coffee and Miss Aloha Hawaii as the tree lights up and signals the start of the holiday season, welcoming everyone to Historic Kailua Village with a reminder to shop, dine and buy local.
Wang Ge artist featured at Kona Oceanfront Gallery
Kona Oceanfront Gallery is hosting the return of The Big Island’s own Wang Ge, also known as Pearl, 5-9 tonight.
Wang Ge returns for her annual visit to the Waterfront Row gallery where she will demonstrate a truly unique and amazing art form called Cloisonne.
This fascinating young artist was born in 1969 in Langfang, a small city near Beijing, China. Her father Wang Zai was a published artist and a well-known local calligrapher. Influenced by her father at an early age, Wang Ge learned to draw and to appreciate the traditional Chinese culture and she has been captivating the artworld ever since.
In 2007, Wang Ge was introduced to an ancient “Cloisonne” style of painting, which was originally developed during the Byzantine Empire, and later perfected in China in the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368 AD).
A visionary and innovator, she quickly mastered the art and then created her own patents using sand-based paint. After the outline of an image is drawn on the board, the tedious process of inlay work begins. She cuts, bends and glues into place gold colored aluminum wire to follow the outline. The voids left by the wire are then filled with a veritable rainbow of brilliant colored sand suspended in a solution of water and glue, maintaining a keen eye to shading, depth and texture. When dried, the painting is then sealed with an acrylic spray to render the work fade and water resistant.
As a result of her unique style of painting, Wang Ge has earned the appointment as a Folk Artist by the Beijing Folk Artists Association of China.

Club Rehab is hosting its third annual Kainaliu Kalikimaka celebration from 5-8:30 p.m. Dec 14 featuring music, lights, and is a family fun stroll in historic Kainaliu town.
Shops, galleries, restaurants, and vendors will be sparkling with lights and open late for all to enjoy. From Sandy’s drive-in to the Aloha theatre there will be holiday cheer and aloha. Entertainment for the whole family will also be on hand, including visit with Santa, live music, carolers, close up magic, face painting, and more.

Kona Dance Club’s Christmas Ball at the Kona Elks Club, 74-5596 Pawai Place in Kailua-Kona starts at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 15 with Hors D’Oeuvres and dancing.
Dress to impress, and bring along an unwrapped gift to donate to “Kids Matter,” a worthwhile cause which has become an annual event for our Club. Special spotlight performances and the best collection of holiday dance tunes will be on hand starting at 5:30 p.m. for Beginner Class sign in.

‘The Wonder of Christmas’ concert Dec. 14 in Volcano
Volcano Festival Chorus will present its 25th annual Christmas concert “The Wonder of Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at KMC’s Kilauea Theater.
The 25-member chorus is under the direction of Roch Jones with accompaniment by Melanie Oldfather. Also joining the chorus will be Cheryl Shine on flute.
This year’s concert features both sacred and secular music. Many of the chorus’ favorites are being performed.
The program in the cool Volcano air is varied and includes a number of tunes with classical music themes, lots of variations on familiar Christmas carols. Popular carols “Do You Hear What I Hear?”, “Have You Heard The News” and a medley of Angel songs titled “Angels Sing Glory!” will be featured.
Admission is free; however, donations will be gratefully accepted. Park entrance fees may apply.
