Betty Akina

Betty Jane Keikioewa Akina, 71, of Mountain View, died on Oct. 12, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Honolulu and was a retired food service worker.

Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Nov. 23 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers.

She is survived by daughter, Corina (Victor) McLellan of Keaau; son, Lloyd (Deborah) Akina of Kaneohe; brothers, Dennis Balles of Hilo and Evan Nihipali of Honolulu; sisters, Elizabeth Kaleo of Hauula, Elijoe Ka’ahu of Ewa, Oahu, Karen Ka’ahu of Honolulu, Rowena Nihipali of Honolulu and Rhoda Nihipali Shores of California; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Amos Botelho

Amos Richard Botelho, 89, of Paauhau, Honokaa, died Oct. 27, 2019, at Hale Ho’ola Hamakua. Born in Paauhau and was a retired cane truck driver/welder with the former Paauhau Sugar Company and Hamakua Sugar Co., a member of the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and served in the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Nov. 23 at the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Casual attire.

He is survived by daughters, Jo Ann (Milton) Lau Kong of Kukuihaele; Sheila (Larry) Vicente of Honokaa, and Margo Godbehere of Kapaa; son, Russel (Serena) Botelho, Sr. of Hilo; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sachiko Matsuzaki

Sachiko Matsuzaki, 87, of Papaikou died Nov. 11, 2019, at her residence. Born in Onomea, she was a retired seamstress for Hilo Hatties and a member of the Hilo Hooganji Mission.

Private services held.

Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

She is survived by son, Clay Matsuzaki of Papaikou; daughters, Cindy (Eric) Fukuda of Hilo, Randi Matsuzaki of Keaau; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose Higa

Rose Salentes Higa, 84, of Hilo, died Nov. 3, 2019 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, Rose was a service station manager, restauranteur, and most recently, a caregiver for the elderly. She was an avid bowler.

Private memorial services and arrangements by Dodo Mortuary. Family requests that in lieu of flowers or koden, that donations be made in Rose’s name to Hawaii Island Adult Care, Inc.

She was preceded in death by sons, Malcolm and Marshall.

She is survived by husband, Akira of Hilo; sons, Calvin (Pohai) and Stacy (Jan) of Hilo; daughters, Debbie (Derek) Alatan of Hilo and Larnele (Leonard) Hazelwood of Oceanside, Calif., 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mark Hamilton

Mark Everett Hamilton, 63, of Ocean View, died Oct. 24, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 18, 1956, in Tacoma, Wash., he was a construction laborer and coffee farmer.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Hamilton of Tacoma, Wash.; brother, Brad (Jodie) Hamilton of Puyallup, Wash.; sisters, Debra Finn of Vancouver, Wash., Julie (Ronald) Nolen of Puyallup, Wash.. nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dominga Guillermo

Dominga Abara Guillermo, 83, of Captain Cook, died Nov. 4, 2019, at her residence. Born Nov. 17, 1935, in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a coffee farmer, plumeria picker and a member of the Ilocano Ancestry Club and St. Benedict’s Parish.

A wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 29 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau. Viewing will continue at the church 8 a.m. Nov. 30. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by her son, Carmelito (Lexie) Guillermo of Captain Cook; sisters, Francisca Delo Santos of Captain Cook and Margarita Medina of Philippines; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Rudolph Kaeo, Sr.

Rudolph “Rudy” Kanaiaupune Kaeo, Sr., 67, of Captain Cook, died Nov. 14, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 26, 1952, in Hilo, he was a retired diesel mechanic and a US Army veteran.

A celebration of life will be held 9:30 a.m. Nov. 23 at Yano Hall in Captain Cook. Service at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon immediately to follow. Family requests no flowers. David Kolii, Jr.

David K. Kolii, Jr., 60, of Pepeekeo, died Sept. 21, 2019, at the Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. He was born in Hawaii and was a road maintenance worker for the State of Hawaii, Highways Division.

Visitation 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 23 at the Waianae Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Oahu. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Private scattering of his ashes will occur at a later date. Casual attire.

He is survived by mother, Ada (Fred) Amina of Waianae; sister, Venus (Tracie Ana) Kolii of Honolulu; brothers, Kim Kolii, Kelly (Kenoilani) Kolii and Moku (Denis) Kalaola, all of Honolulu; daughter, Rosemary Schutz of Honolulu; two grandsons, nieces and nephews.
