Tokuo Kunitomo

Tokuo Albert Kunitomo, 88, of Honolulu, died on Oct. 3, 2019. Born in Keei-Kona, he was a husband, father, community sports coach, Army veteran, and retired from Hawaiian Telephone and the Army National Guard.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation starts 10 a.m. Reception to follow. No flowers, casual attire.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, JoAnn (Ross) Kawamoto, Eric (Kim), Casey, and Lisa; siblings; Richard (Jane,), and Elaine (Robert) Chapman; and five grandchildren.

He is predeceased by brother, Stanley (Gladys).

Norie Ogasawara

Norie “Joe” Ogasawara, 89, of Pahoa, died Nov. 5, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born June 13, 1930, in Pahoa, he was a retired mechanic for Paul’s Repair Service, U.S. Army Korean War veteran and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and Kyu Pahoa Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by brothers, Paul (Nui) Ogasawara of Pahoa, Howard (Gail) Ogasawara of Los Angeles; a brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet Nakagawa

Violet Corpuz Suguitan Nakagawa, 93, of Papaaloa, died Nov. 11, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Bario Lanas, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, she retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Papaaloa Senior Citizens and the Hawaii Island Adult Care Center.

Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Dec. 2 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. A graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m. at the Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire, flowers welcome.

She is survived by sons, Manuel (Carol) Suguitan of Maui and Ernest (Kim) Suguitan of Keaau; daughter, Dency (Stan) Barcarse of Hilo; stepson, Howard Suguitan of Hilo; stepdaughter, Janet (Chris Torres) Suguitan of Hilo; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Fujie Matsuoka

Fujie Matsuoka, 88, of Kealakekua, died Nov. 16, 2019, at Galanto Care Home in Kailua-Kona. Born May 2, 1931, in Kealakekua, she was a retired clerk for Oshima Dry Goods and Pharmacy, and a member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Asahi Kumiai and Kona Senior Karaoke Club.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by her son, Danny Matsuoka of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Janis (Horace) Walker of Kealakekua, Joni (Neil) McDermott of Tipp City, Ohio and Cathy (Dale Emmert) of Milford, Calif.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose Santos

Rose Marie Santos, 72 of Hilo, died Oct. 23, 2019, at Pohai Malama in Hilo. Born Dec. 28, 1946, in Honolulu, she was a retired United States Postal worker and worked for the Hawaii Youth Challenge and the Hawaii Mental Health for Adults.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at St. Joseph Church, 43 Kapiolani St. in Hilo. Vitiations begins at 9 a.m.

Rose is survived by brother, Leroy Santos, Joseph Betonio; sisters, Betty Aragon, Barbara Santos; hanai daughters, Shenelle Santos-Cortez, Brandy Feiteira; numerous cousins.
