KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police continue to issue citations and make arrests amid enhanced traffic enforcement efforts on Daniel K. Inouye Highway near Maunakea Access Road and the Thirty Meter Telescope protest.
Since Aug. 15, the Hawaii Police Department has issued 7,677 citations and arrested 71 people for 132 offenses, according to a press release issued Friday morning.
In the past week, police issued 436 citations and arrested two people for two offenses.

“The effort will continue for the duration of the ongoing protest situation to promote the safety of motorist and pedestrians alike,” the department stated in the media release.
