Fujie Matsuoka

Fujie Matsuoka, 88, of Kealakekua, died Nov. 16, 2019, at Galanto Care Home in Kailua-Kona. Born May 2, 1931, in Kealakekua, she was a retired clerk for Oshima Dry Goods and Pharmacy, and a member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Asahi Kumiai and Kona Senior Karaoke Club.

Private services will be held. No gifts.

She is survived by her son, Danny Matsuoka of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Janis (Horace) Walker of Kealakekua, Joni (Neil) McDermott of Tipp City, Ohio. and Cathy (Dale Emmert) of Milford, Calif.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Oshiro

Richard Eisei Oshiro, 101, of Mountain View, died Nov. 15, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born Dec. 26, 1917, in Mountain View, he was a retired cook from Hilo Medical Center, U.S. Army World War II Military Intelligence Service (MIS) veteran, and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and Hui Okinawa.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Dec. 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by daughter, Jeanne Nagatani of Honolulu; son, Russel (Marcella) Oshiro of Hilo; brothers, Yoshimori Oshiro of Honolulu, Masa Oshiro of California; sister, Yoshie Gresham of Honolulu; sisters-in-law, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Theresa Baptista

Theresa Llanes Baptista, 96, of Hilo, died at a foster home on Nov. 13, 2019. Born on Oct. 15, 1923 in Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was a former employee of Ono-Pac Papaya, Ming’s, retired from Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation, a self-taught seamstress and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary FCC.

Friends may call 6 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. celebration of life. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. Dec. 13 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. celebration of Mass. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section).

She is prceded in death by husband, Jose Baptista; son, Glenn Baptista; two grandchildren and son-in-law.

She is survived five daughters, Evangeline (Jose) Castaneda and Alicia (Oscar) Panem of Hilo, Lety (Ronald) Rabang of Maui, Janet Albayalde and Nelia (Richard) Greer of California; brothers, Emmanuel Llanes, Fernando Llanes and Alex Llanes of Philippines; a daughter-in-law; 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Jeffery Bartley

Jeffery Nelson Bartley, 63, of Holualoa, died Nov. 24, 2019, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born July 25, 1956, in Encino, Calif., he was a drywall/mason.

He is survived by his daughter, Steeli Bartley of Captain Cook; sister, Carol (Billy) Field of Kaloko Mauka; two grandchildren and two nieces.

Mary Mico

Mary Margaret Mico, 60, of Volcano, died Oct. 30, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices. Born Feb. 26, 1959, in Wyoming; she worked for Hilo Walmart in the receiving department.

Celebration of life will be held on 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at Onekahakaha Beach Park (Pavilon #4) in Hilo.

She is survived by partner, Joseph R. Talon of Volcano; son, Rocco A. Mico-Talon of Volcano; daughter, Susan (Lunalilo Salas) Mico-Talon of Volcano; sisters, Roxy (Randy Wentworth) Mico of Mountain View and Frances McCurley of Sacramento, California; and six grandchildren.
