KAILUA-KONA — The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs’ Business Registration Division will be suspending its Business Action Center (BAC) Kona Resource Days at the end of the year.
The last BAC Resource Day, which were held on the second Thursday of each month at the West Hawaii Civic Center, will be this Thursday.
At BAC Resource Days, owners of existing businesses and anyone thinking of starting a business on the island could register a business entity, trade name, or trade mark; file a DCCA annual report; make changes to their business’ information on record with the DCCA; apply for a general excise tax license; update GET license account information; and find information on other government requirements pertaining to their business and other resources available to small businesses.
The DCCA said a lack of attendance is what caused the suspension.
“The Business Action Center Kona Resource Days, while beneficial for those who have used the service, have seen a decline in in-person participation since offering the service in 2015,” said Jessica Chillingworth, of the DCCA, in an email.
Chillingworth said the DCCA is referring to it as a “suspension” as there is still a possibility resource days to the west side of the island.
“If a renewed interest for the Resource Days arise, the Department will look into possibly reinstating the Kona Resource Days on a schedule that is best fit for the public’s needs and the Department’s staffing availabilities,” Chillingworth said.
BAC will continue to provide its in-person services on Oahu, Maui, and in Hilo.
The Hilo BAC Resource Days are held at 25 Aupuni Street, Suite 1301 on the first and third Thursdays of every month. The next one will be held Dec. 19.
