Carla Brown

Carla Marie Brown, 80, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 16, 2019, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital on Oahu. Born in Detroit, she retired to Kona in 1996 and become active in the Kona Ball Room Dance Club, Keauhou Kona Yacht Club, Elk’s Lodge, and Lions Club of Kailua-Kona, was a contestant and winner on “Wheel of Fortune” and owner of A Creative Concept.

A celebration of life is planned for March 8 at the Kona Elk’s Lodge 2616.

She is survived by her husband Richard “Dick” Scritchfield, son, Michael (Joan) Jones of Phoenix, daughter, Valarie (Fred) Schiller of Napomo, Calif., stepdaughter Laura (Larry) Kniffin of Kona, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Albert Pule, Sr.

Albert Kaia Pule, Sr., 73, of Hilo, died Nov. 7, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born on July 11, 1946, in Niulii, he was a retired police officer for the Hawaii County Police Department, U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ainaola Ward.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.

He is survived by children, Albert Kaia Pule, Jr., Robert Keala (Celeste) Pule, Sr., Karilu (Icher) Annes, Rosanna Mamone, Krystelle Pule, Bender Pule and Kimball Pule; siblings, Daynes (Shon) Pule, Jr., Alden (Lana) Pule, Sr., Eric (Gabby) Pule, Sr., Raymond Pule, John Pule and Sharon Pule; 12 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Diana Aliksa

Diana Siosi Aliksa, 71, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 17, 2019, at Queen’s Medical Center. Born May 18, 1948, in Micronesia, she was a housekeeper.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 12 at the Kona Outdoor Circle at 72-6280 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. with entombment to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Siosi Aliksa of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Mitchigo (Tulensru) Tulensru, Roseanna (Joshua) Likiaksa of Kailua-Kona, and Reyanna (Jackson) Tokuhara of Waikoloa; son, Ron Aliksa of Kailua-Kona; sister, Donn (Kurt) Penrose of Keauhou; 19 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kathleen Castro

Kathleen “Kat” Marie Castro, 42, of Mountain View, died Nov. 26, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born May 16, 1977, in Sitka, Alaska, she was the vice president of operations for Dig It Hawaii.

A celebration of life will be held at the family residence; call family for more information.

She is survived by life partner, Lee Pennington; son, Keanu Peterson; daughters, Deja Sherwood, Kyrie Pennington, Kiara Pennington; mother, Mary Archer; and sister, Heather Vares.

John Stewart

John P. Stewart, 70, of Hilo, died Nov. 25, 2019, at Hawaii Care Choices formerly Hospice of Hilo. Born on July 27, 1949, in Pasadena, Calif., he was a retired police officer for the County of Hawaii, and a member of the Aloha Exchange Club, the Fil-Am Golf Club and the Tsunami Golf Club.

Friends may call 10-11:30 a.m. Dec. 21 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for an 11:30 a.m. celebration of life. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed.

He is survived by wife, Luica N. Stewart of Hilo; son, Robert T.H.K. Stewart of Hilo; daughters, Roxane K. Keliikipikaneokolohaka of Hilo and Yvette Anderson of The Woodlands, Texas; mother, Virginia Stewart of Waipahu; sisters, Linda (Mark) Hines of Waipahu, Liane Stewart of La Verne, California and Robhan Stewart of San Diego; four grandchildren; one brother in-law; three sisters-in-law.

Vincent Pereira, Jr.

Vincent Louis Pereira, Jr., 49, of Mountain View, died Nov. 16, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Sept. 23, 1970, in Hilo, he was an Educational Assistant for the Department of Education State of Hawaii at Hilo High School and he also was a member of the Hawaiian Iron Motorcycle Club and Hustlers Golf Club.

Friends may call 4-6:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 6:30 p.m. celebration of life. Casual attire; Flowers and lei are welcomed. Cremation at Dodo Mortuary Crematory.

He is survived by wife, Mia Pereira of Mountain View; son, Cody Pereira of Mountain View; sisters, Margaret Louise Puanani Waiki Pereira of Columbia, S.C., Shaunna-Ann Pereira and Jodi Leilani Waiki (Vanessa) Pereira of Hilo; brother, George Joseph Lono Waiki (Twinkle) Pereira of Wailuku, Maui; mother-in-law; brother-in-law; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

Julie Haydu-Taylor

Julie Ann Haydu-Taylor, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 3, 2019. Born on Jan. 31, 1961, she was from Richland, Washington.

A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at My Bar in Kailua-Kona.

She is survived by husband, Kip Taylor; brothers, Stephen Beckett and David Beckett; sister, Christy Taylor.
