One lane was blocked in the Waimea bound direction on Kawaihae Road Tuesday morning after a fuel truck tractor trailer partially rolled over.

The Hawaii Fire Department reported that the driver had self-extricated himself and denied any EMS treatment when responders arrived on scene around 7:40 a.m. near Kanehoa Street.

The tank was still intact with no hazardous product leaked, the department said.

The fuel truck driver stated that his rear left tire blew out and due to high winds was unable to regain control of his apparatus and partially tipped over onto an 8- to 10-foot high dirt hill. The department determined that there was no hazardous fuel leak, and commenced with vehicle stabilization, established safety zones and awaited the arrival and assistance of additional resources.

Upon arrival of heavy duty tow apparatus, both lanes were then blocked to facilitate truck removal. E09 remained on-scene until hazard was mitigated and later released by HPD. The road was reopened around 3 p.m.
