Guys like Trump fill weak void

In Ryan Thompson’s My Turn, “Fake state or fake history,” neither matters. What we have here in Hawaii, which is not fake in real time, is a fearful governor, David Ige, a confused unsure lieutenant governor, Josh Green, and a sleepy mayor, Harry Kim.

I’m sad to say I voted for all of them. They continue to ignore the approved TMT, the law breakers who have occupied the road, and the rights of citizens to use that road, including Mr Thompson’s snow gathering.

As a lifelong liberal Democrat, I hate to say it, but Ige, Green and Kim have more in common with Larry, Moe and Curly bumbling their way through what hopefully is their final terms. The protesters are laughing at them. They are a perfect example of why guys like Trump are in office. Our current elected officials are afraid to take on controversy. No one despises guys like Trump more than me but unless the three stooges get there act together on Maunakea, prepare for more guys like Trump.

Writer disrespected protesters

Mister Thompson, I read your letter, your story is typical of so many disgruntled “westerners” who want things only their way. Also there is no culture, ours or anyone else’s culture, that requires snow from Maunakea — we gather for fun. You went once on the mountain and got turned back, instead of respecting the mountain you chose to return with some “local” backup to challenge the protectors and that didn’t go so well.

Your disrespect to the protectors and the sacrifice they give daily, auwe, you should be ashamed of yourself and if those people with you were locals I can only shake my head in disgust.

You chose the right place for a confrontation, Maunakea is sacred, the aina is pure.

Use nature, not poison

Watching our tax dollars wasted as county employees weed-whacked our street medians as they worked on uneven lava rocks, I thought there has to be a better way.

What keeps the weeds from growing and benefits the environment by converting exhaust fumes to oxygen? Trees.

Plant the roadsides with trees and the weeds cannot grow. I never believed poison was an actual solution to our roadside and landscape dilemma, so why not use nature to replace our Monsanto state of mind?
