Calvin Uratani

Calvin Fumio Uratani, 73, of Hilo, died Dec. 5, 2019, in the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. He was born Aug. 15, 1946, in Hilo, he retired from the former Hamakua Sugar Company as a utility mechanic. He was a United States Army veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by son, Reece (Ka’ala) Uratani of Hilo; brother, Herbert (Margie) Uratani of California; sisters, Lorraine Chung of Hilo and Earline (Eugene) Yokoi of Oahu; two grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Masaru Deguchi

Masaru “Masa” “Maru” Deguchi, 91, of Kealakekua, died Dec. 13, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Dec. 30, 1927, in Kealakekua, he was a retired maintenance worker for Kona Market Place, coffee farmer, bowler and dedicated member of the Daifukuji Soto Mission and Kona Fukuoka Kejin Kai.

Visitation is 3 p.m. Jan. 11 at Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo. Service is at 4 p.m. followed by a celebration of life in the Kona Daifukuji Soto Mission Social Hall.

He is survived by wife, Kelly Deguchi of Kealakekua; son, Ashley (Cheryl) Deguchi of Honolulu; daughter, Akemi (Ronald) Iwamoto of Kealakekua; sisters, Sugi Sugai of Papaikou, Michiko Enomoto of Kailua-Kona; two grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

Toshio Nakamura

Toshio Nakamura, 94, of Mountain View, died Nov. 10, 2019, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo. Born May 29, 1925, in Mountain View, he was retired from the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission and various golf clubs.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by wife, Kei Nakamura of Mountain View; sons, Peter (Julie) Nakamura and Dan (Debbie) Nakamura of Mililani, Oahu; brother, Fumio Nakamura of Hilo; three grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Terry Delfin, Jr.

Terry Delfin, Jr., 73, of Montclair, Calif., and formerly of Hilo died July 23, 2019, at his residence. Born in in Hilo, he was a gas station attendant at Costco in California and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

A committal service will take place at noon Dec. 27 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by wife, Tania Delfin of Hilo; children, Tanya (Duane) Santa Isabel of Keaau, Lei (Shayne) Arruda of Hilo, Justin (Nicole) Santa Isabel of Keaau, Terrilyn-Ann (Alfred) Yanos of Hilo, Trudi (Michelle) Delfin of Hilo, Tricia-Mei (Bryant) Mira of Hilo, Rusty-Jay Arruda of Hilo; brothers, Dennis (Rose) Delfin of Hilo, Larry (Annette) Delfin of California; sister, Gina (Henry) Cardines of California; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Kay Uekawa

Kay Shigeko Uekawa, 95, of Hilo, died Dec. 6, 2019. She was born in Kaumana and was a retired elementary school teacher at Kaneohe Elementary School on Oahu.

Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary donations).

Survived by daughter, Ellen (David) Tamura of Hilo; son, Lloyd Uekawa of Kaneohe; sister, Jane (Roy) Nagata of Hilo; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; numerous nieces &nephews.
