Donald Mattos

Donald Andrade Mattos, 70, of Naalehu died Dec. 12, 2019, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired equipment operator for the County of Hawaii Highway Division and side unloader operator for the former Ka’u Sugar Company.

Friends may call 5-9 p.m. Jan. 10 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6. Friends may call again 9-10 a.m. Jan. 11 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Prayer service at 10. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Victoria Mattos of Naalehu; sons, Donovan Mattos of Naalehu, Michael (Nicole) Mattos of Hilo; brothers, Kenneth (Florence) DePonte of Hilo, George DePonte of Hilo; mother-in-law; four brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; five grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanette Tinnel

Jeanette Midori Tinnel, 86, of Kealakekua, died Dec. 25, 2019, at her residence. Born Jan. 18, 1933, in Holualoa, she was a retired public school teacher and a member of NEA, HEA, H Star, Kona Historical Society and AARP.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 20 at Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo for an 11 a.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeri (Jason) Moniz of Honokaa; sister, Annette (Tatuumi) Sato of Kainaliu; three grandsons; numerous nieces, nephews and cousin.

Alberto Duterte

Mr. Alberto “AJ” Alcain Duterte, 40, of Captain Cook, died Dec. 23, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 26, 1979, in Kealakekua, he was a landscaper for Mauka Makai Landscaping Services, a stock clerk at Longs Drugs Keauhou and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Visitation will begin at 7:30 a.m. Jan. 18 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kealakekua. Mass will start at 9 a.m. The family requests casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by his son, Logan Santos-Duterte; mother, Norma Duterte of Captain Cook; sisters, Diana Duterte of Seattle, Angela (Duane) Nagata of Benicia, Calif.; several aunts and uncles a niece and nephew; numerous cousins.

Robert Foster

Mr. Robert “Bob” Eugene Foster, 95, of Ocean View, died Nov. 8, 2019, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born March 4, 1924, in Laramie, Wyo., he was a WWII Navy pilot, a retired electrician for Union Pacific Railroad, retired electrician for a construction company, and member of IBEW.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Foster of Ocean View; son, Richard (Mary) Foster of Laramie, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

Lavinia Alcain-Denison

Mrs. Lavinia Alcain-Denison, 58, of Kealakekua, died Dec. 12, 2019, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 7, 1961, in Kealakekua, she was a volunteer at Kona Krafts.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 11 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau and memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire and loose flowers are welcome.

She is survived by her son, Ki-Aloha Denison of Kealakekua; stepdaughter, Keenann Denison of California; parents, Roger and Linda Alcain of Kealakekua; brother, Curtis Alcain, and sister, Natalie Alcain of Kealakekua; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Denis Higa

Mr. Denis Noboru Higa, 66, of Waimea, died Dec. 24, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born March 2, 1953, in Japan, he was a bartender at the Outrigger Waikoloa and a member of local 5 union.

A celebration of life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 11 at Mana Christian Church in Waimea. Services in Honolulu will be announced at a later date. The family requests casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by his companion, Candace Kauahi; daughters, Denise Watson-Higa and Kuu Kauahi-Higa; stepdaughter, Michelle Gregory, all of Waimea; son, Kaipo Higa of Henderson, Las Vegas; mother, Shizuye Higa of Oahu; sisters, Sharon Higa and Carol Christopher of Oahu; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Julio Resureccion

Julio B. Resureccion, 81, of Honolulu, died Jan. 7, 2020, at the Tripler Army Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Paauilo, and was a general contractor/owner of J.R. Bulldozing &Land Clearing, police officer with the Hawaii County Police Department in Kona, Hilo and Ka’u, a truck driver for Yamada Transfer and was a Lance Corporal and Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Visitation 4:30-5:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Graveside urn committal service 9 a.m. Jan. 13 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Condolences may be mailed to: The Resureccion Family, 64-5222 Ironwood Lane, Kamuela, HI 96743.
