SOUTH KOHALA — Lahaina Galleries in The Shops at Mauna Lani will feature a meet and greet with award-winning artists Douglas Ball and Rod Cameron from 4-7 p.m. Sunday.
Ball was a high-ranking artist with Walt Disney Studios for many years working on such animated classics as “The Lion King,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
He eventually moved to the Big Island to paint the flora, fauna, and native people of Hawaii from young to old. His realism has been compared to Norman Rockwell, he spends a great deal of time on each of his paintings, specializing in family portraits.
Cameron was a successful designer and illustrator for over 20 years in Los Angeles, working at Warner Brothers Entertainment and Hasbro before moving to the Big Island. He is well known for his colorful impressionism. His stunning oil images feature remarkable landscapes, sunsets, and celebrations of the people of Hawaii.
Also featured will be certified sommelier, West Hawaii Today columnist, and fine art consultant, Hayley Hamilton Cogill, serving specially selected wines for the event and art restoration expert and fine art consultant, Annalee Knutson. Both will be on hand to answer questions you might have concerning your fine art collection and new acquisitions, along with Big Island Gallery director and Emmy award-winning film critic, Gary Cogill, ready to chat film and art. It’s almost Oscar time!
