The Society for Kona’s Education & Art, SKEA, welcomes everyone to their site in Honaunau for the organization’s Annual Membership Day from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The afternoon begins with music and dance by SKEA’s hula halau, with kumu Mahina Saunders and accompanied by the band Aloha Moon. A gallery show and sale by the South Kona Artist Collective (SOKO) will grace the large indoor space. This is a fun and free event with light pupus, beverages, and a casual and friendly vibe.

Enjoy the rural beauty of a vibrant community at SKEA’s Annual Membership Day; sign up for a membership on Sunday and receive a free gift. Art and culture are necessary components of a good education, essential for health and quality of life, and in this case, easy and fun to support.

SKEA was established in 1981 by a group of young families with a core mission of providing education in the arts to their own and others’ children. Today, the organization fulfills that mission through two main children’s programs: Art of Learning, which serves four area schools and over 1,200 students each year by bringing teaching artists into the classroom for hands-on projects in pottery, visual arts, dance, drama, and sculpture, and Art Camp, combining art, games, music, and socializing for fun and enriching school breaks in the fall, spring, and summer.

There are lots of workshops and weekly classes for adults, including gyotaku (fish printing), or a barre class, or many other offerings.
