Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise announces scholarships

The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise is launching two $1,000 scholarships for any West Hawaii high school senior, including those who are home-schooled.

Francis Kuailani Sr. Scholarship: Francis was a longtime U.S. National Park Service employee who worked at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park.

Dr. Clifford Kopp DDS Scholarship: Cliff was a local prosthodontist and leader of West Hawaii Rotary projects. He was known for his passionate support of the homeless with his circle the island walks to bring awareness to the issue.

Students applying for these scholarships must be registered in a two- or four-year program at any school/college or university with a focus in the fields of biology, geology, or ecology. Applications for all scholarships will be accepted through Feb. 17.

Soroptimist International of Kona offering scholarship

Soroptimist International of Kona, a women’s organization whose members volunteer to improve women’s lives through programs leading to social and economic empowerment, is accepting applications for the $1,200 Live Your Dream Award scholarship.

Contact Claudette Serion, 217-4684, for more information and an application. Applciations are due Jan. 27. A recipient will be selected Feb. 15.

The awardee will also be considered for Soroptimist International regional recognition for additional scholarship money.
