Federico Badua Sr.

Federico “Fred” Badua Sr., 83, of Papaikou, died Jan. 22, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, he was a retired mechanic with the former Mauna Kea Sugar Co. and a retired sergeant in the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Feb. 11 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by sons, Federico Badua Jr. of Hilo, Jaime (Nowmie) Badua of Las Vegas and Tracy Badua of San Antonio; daughters, Cynthia Badua and Kelly (Michael) Staszkow of Hilo and Kaylene Badua of San Antonio; sisters, Erminia Banquil of Pahoa and Erlinda Torres of Hilo; four grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Masasuke Chinen

Masasuke “Suke” Chinen, 93, of Waimea died Jan. 8, 2020, at home. Born in Hakalau, he was a retired deliveryman with Meadow Gold Dairies, Inc. and a member of the Waimea Hongwanji Mission.

Private services held. No koden (monetary donations).

He is survived by sister-in-law, Doris Chinen of Paauilo; two grandchildren, Brandon (Charmaine) Chinen, and Shaye (Kimo) Keliipaakaua; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Morris-Waltjen

Patricia Gail Morris-Waltjen, 78, of Discovery Harbour, died Jan. 22, 2020 at Ka’u Hospital. Born May 1, 1941, in Seattle, she was a retired dental assistant, dental assistant instructor and board member of Discovery Harbour Entertainment Committee, member of the Red Hat Society and an avid quilter and potter.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Discovery Harbour Golf Club Club House for a celebration of life.

She is survived by husband, Bernard Waltjen Jr. of Discovery Harbour; son, Danny (Debra) Morris of Los Angeles; daughter, Kimberly (Rodney) Blythe of Los Angeles; brothers, Dale Townsan and Jerry Townsan of Seattle; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Edward Young Sr.

Edward “Eddie Boy” Kealoha Young, Sr., 83, of Kailua-Kona, died Jan. 13, 2020, at his residence. Born July 24, 1936, in Kalaoa, he was a retired construction worker, former repair technician for Oahu City and County Waste Water Management, produce manager for Foodland Kona and a U.S. Army veteran.

Guy Piltz

Guy Hiwa Piltz, 81, of Waimea, died Jan. 20, 2020, at his residence. Born Sept. 7, 1938, in Honolulu, he was an episcopal priest and member of St. James Episcopal Church.

Friends may call at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea. The family requests casual attire and no flowers. Donations may be made in his honor to Hospice of North Hawaii.

He is survived by wife, Josephine Piltz of Waimea; daughters, Linda Piltz O’Brien of Wahiawa, Oahu, Kristin Piltz of Waimea, and Jennifer (Jeff Ramos) Piltz of Waialua, Oahu; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece.

Brian Takishima

Brian Takao Takishima, 64, died recently. Born Oct. 24, 1955, in Honolulu, he was a bartender at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel on Oahu for a noon celebration of life. Aloha, casual attire requested.

He is survived by wife, Lisa Kawamoto; mother, Tsunako Takishima; and family.

Ralph Fukumitsu

Ralph Umeo Fukumitsu, 99, died Jan. 17, 2020, in Honolulu. He was born in Keopu, Kona.

A private service was held in Honolulu. Interment will be scheduled at a future date at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The family has requested no flowers or monetary offerings.

He is survived by wife, Gladys Fukumitsu; children, Cynthia Fukumitsu, Steve (Jani) Fukumitsu and Kimberly (Troy) Yoshimura; grandchildren; sister Sumie (George) Sonoda; nieces and nephews

Elizabeth Spielman

Elizabeth “Tita” Kauikeolani Ruddle Spielman, 95, died Jan. 23 at her home in Waimea. Born in Hilo, worked at Kilauea Military Camp during the war and at the Hawaii Visitors Bureau and Punahou School in Honolulu before retiring and moving back to Hawaii Island. She was a former Board Member for the North Hawaii Community Hospital.

Private services.

She is survived by her sons, Joe and John Spielman; daughter Eva Naniole; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to North Hawaii Community Hospital, North Hawaii Hospice or Kawaihae Canoe Club.
