Russell Wong

Russell Timothy Kwan Tim Wong, 73, of Hilo, died Jan. 23, 2020 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired Technical Sergeant from the Hawaii Air National Guard 291st Combat Communications Squadron, had also served in the Hawaii Army National Guard and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 18 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No.2. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Nanette Wong of Hilo; children, Alana (Bryan) Grace of Keaau, Andrea Wong of Puyallup, Wash., Andrew (Melissa) Wong of Waimea, Heidi Wong of Hilo; sister, Dorinda (Ronald) Choy of Des Moines, Wash.; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Shannon Masaoka

Shannon “Mas” Isami Keola Masaoka, 48, of Pahoa, died Jan. 7, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Hilo and was a commercial fisherman and a member of Ka Uhane Hemolele O Ka Malamalama Church.

Visitation 4-6 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel. Funeral service at 6 p.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Linda Masaoka of Australia; daughters, Lava Masaoka and Leilani Masaoka of Australia; parents, Sidney and Sandy Masaoka of Pahoa; brothers, Nohea Masaoka and Riki (Charlene) Masaoka of Hilo; sisters, Margaret (Alvin) Kikau and Kuuipo (Clayton) Tremaine of Hilo; paternal grandmother, Cecilia Masaoka of Hilo; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Odetta Tomas

Odetta U’ilani Newcomb Tomas, 71, of Hilo, died Feb. 3, 2020, in Kaumana. Born Dec. 1, 1948, in Hilo, she was a retired supervisor with Bank of Hawaii and a member of the Kaumana Drive Baptist Church.

Friends may call 4-5 p.m. Feb. 22 at Kaumana Drive Baptist Church for a 5 p.m. service. Casual attire. Flowers should be omitted.

She is survived by daughter, Debbie Walker of Wailuku, Maui; son, Eric (‘Ilima) Tomas of Las Vegas, Nevada; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; sisters, Georgiana Rabago, Veronica Higa and Lynn Newcomb of Hilo, JM Newcomb of Los Angeles; numerous nieces and nephews.
