Libraries to close for Presidents’ Day holiday
In state observance of Presidents’ Day, all public libraries and support offices will be closed Saturday through Monday.
Libraries will resume normal business hours on Tuesday.

Scholarships available for high school senior girls
The American Association of University Women, Kona Branch, will award three scholarships of $2,000 each this spring to exceptional female high school seniors with financial need in West Hawaii who will be attending a two- or four-year college or university.
The criteria for choosing scholarship recipients are academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular high school activities, community organizations, and/or employment experience, educational and career goals and financial need. A written essay, resumé and completed application are required with supporting documents.
Applications are available from high school counselors or at kona-hi.aauw.net. Home-schooled seniors are welcome to apply. Applications must be postmarked by April 1.
In addition, two $1,000 scholarships will be offered for women desiring to complete a two-year vocational or certificate program at Hawaii Community College — Palamanui. These scholarships are available to high school graduates and also those women who may have been in the workplace or women who are returning to school for better employment opportunities.
Applications may be obtained from high school counselors, Palamanui counselors, and online at https://kona-hi.aauw.net. The Palamanui scholarship applications must be postmarked by April 1.

Students make dean’s list
Anna Moon, of Kailua-Kona, was named to the Emerson College dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester. Eligible students must earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher.
Ada Benson, of Waimea, is among those named to the dean’s list at Endicott College for the fall 2019 semester. Eligible students must earn a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Emma Blake, of Kailua-Kona, was named to the Northeastern University’s dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester. Eligible students must earn a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Jacob H. Young, of Kapaau, was named to the Colby College dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester. Eligible students must earn a 3.75 GPA or higher.
Kainoa Kupaa Fernandez, of Kailua-Kona, was named to the dean’s list at Gonzaga University for the fall semester. Eligible students must earn a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Dashiell Griffith Cotton, of Waimea, was named to the dean’s list at Gonzaga University for the fall semester. Eligible students must earn a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Kiyono Mcdonald, of Kailua-Kona, made the dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have a 3.0 or higher academic average for the semester.
Alexander Rude of Kailua-Kona was named to the fall 2019 president’s list at Georgia State University. To be eligible for the President’s List, degree-seeking students must have earned a 4.0 GPA.
Janey Lienau, of Kailua-Kona, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester. To earn dean’s list honors, an undergraduate student must carry 12 or more credit hours and achieve a 3.5 GPA.
Hayden Virtue, of Hawi, was named to the dean’s list at Tufts University for the fall 2019 semester. Dean’s list honors require a 3.4 GPA or higher.
Residents earn degrees
Two West Hawaii residents recently earned master’s degrees from Western Governors University, an online, nonprofit university.
Anne Julia Padilla, of Kealakekua, and Sara Kobayashi of Waikoloa, each earned Master of Business Administration degrees.
