Preliminary hearings are for a man and woman charged with various offenses after police executed a search warrant this week at a Ka‘u home reportedly turning up drugs and weapons.
Hawaii Police Department officers reportedly recovered 11.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 176.9 grams of dried marijuana, 56 marijuana plants, a .30-06 rifle, a .22 caliber rifle, a .357 caliber revolver and 19 rounds of ammunition after executing a search warrant Wednesday at a property off Coconut Drive in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.
At the scene, officers arrested a 64-year-old Edward Asuncion and a 72-year-old Cecilio Asuncion on suspicious of various offenses.
Edward Asuncion was later charged with first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug. Cecilio Asuncion was charged with first-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, second-degree commercial promotion of marijuana, third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, six counts of firearm ownership/possession prohibited and possession of a firearm with intent to facilitate the commission of a felony.
Bail was set at $15,000 for Edward Asuncion and $55,250 for Cecilio Asuncion.
Edward Asuncion was granted supervised release during an initial appearance Thursday before District Court Judge Bruce Larson in Kona. Larson maintained bail $55,250 for Cecilio Asuncion.
Cecilio Asuncion’s preliminary hearing is set for Friday afternoon while Edward Asuncion was ordered to appear for his preliminary hearing on March 2.
During the preliminary hearings, prosecutors will work to show the state has probable cause to support the charges, sending the cases to Circuit Court for trial.
