Belinda Polido

Belinda Isabella Kauwa “Yabu” Polido, 56, of Hilo, died Dec. 14, 2019, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahala, she was a member of Pahala Door of Faith and she also was a cashier and stock clerk for Kadota Liquor, Manono Mini Mart and a mixer supervisor at Hilo Macaroni Factory.

Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Feb. 22 for a 6 p.m. service. Casual attire.

She is survived by brothers, Solomon Polido of Hilo, Edward (Sandra) Polido and Rick (Erika) Polido of Pahala, Ken (Jo Anne) Polido of Kurtistown; sisters, Susan Lebehn, Madelina (Edward) Martinez, Elizabeth Polido, Gay (Frank) Polido Scott, Marilyn Polido and Lorna Kay (Raymond) Polido-Kalili of Pahala, Ruth (William) Kahele of Hilo and Rachel Kaholoaa of Kona; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Bates

Richard G. Bates, of Waimea, died Feb. 6, 2020. He was a contractor, golfer and sportsman.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at Waikoloa Village Community Room for a service.

He is survived by daughter, Anna (Javier), granddaughter, Mila, brother, Chris (Pam), and cousins Barbara, Hilleary, Sabine, Caroline and Duncan.

Veda Shimaoka

Veda Elise Thompson Shimaoka, 64, of Keaau died Feb. 4, 2020, in Keaau. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and former caregiver.

Private services.

She is survived by husband, Oliver Shimaoka of Keaau; sister, Mari (Arthur) Jensen of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania; two nephews.

Bernard Urabe

Bernard Yoshio Urabe, 73, of Hilo, died Jan. 23, 2020, at the Maui Memorial Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an auditor for the federal government.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden (monetary gifts).

He is survived by sister, Beatrice (Douglas) Abe of Camarillo, California; brother, Alvin (Julie) Urabe of Hilo; half-sister, Lillian (Edwin) Noll of Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arlene McClure

Arlene “Lea” Victoria McClure, 93, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 7, 2020, at her residence. Born Nov. 11, 1926 in Denver, she was a retired educator, artist, dancer, member of Writers and Artists Group and author.

Private service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be sent to Hospice of Kona, PO Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745.

She is survived by husband, Lerre McClure of Kailua-Kona; children, Ken Levinson, Glenn Levinson both of Colorado, Gary (Tibby) Levinson of Mexico, Kirk (Rhonda) McClure, Kim Simon, Kris (Christy) McClure; hanai sister, Terry Green all of Colorado; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Hugh Fleming

Hugh Arthur Fleming, 84, of Mountain View, died Dec. 26, 2019, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born May 5, 1935, in Raton, New Mexico, he was a retired gemologist, pilot, fisherman, owner of Lafayette &Spectrum Electronics and employee of JHE Communications and Hamakua Sugar Communications.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Spoonful Café (16-569 Old Volcano Road) in Keaau for a service. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, June Fleming of Mountain View; sons, George (Shelley) Karvas of Hilo, Mark (Lornalee) Karvas of Hilo and Hugh (Isabell) Fleming of Washington; daughters, Lorilee Fleming of Raton, New Mexico and Laura Nelson of New Mexico; brother, Vince Warrick of New Mexico; six grandchildren.
