Police on Friday identified the pedestrian killed Thursday morning after being struck by multiple vehicles on Highway 130, just south of the Keaau Transfer Station.

The Hawaii Police Department identified the victim as 58-year-old David Foster Perrells, of Pahoa.

Perrells was reportedly standing in the Hilo-bound inner lane when he was struck by at least three vehicles at about 6 a.m., the department said in a Thursday press release. He was found unresponsive at the scene, and later pronounced dead at Hilo Medical Center.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash and is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or have information relative to the identity of other involved vehicle(s) or driver(s) to contact Officer Blayne Matsui of the Area I Traffic Enforcement Unit at 961-2339.

Those who prefer anonymity can call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.

This is the fifth traffic fatality of 2020 compared to two at this time last year.
