Joan King

Joan Yvonne King, 81, of Volcano, died Feb. 3, 2020, at her residence. Born in Susanville, California, she was a psychiatric nurse at the Queen’s Medical Center and Kona Community Hospital, homemaker, member of the Kinoole Baptist Church and American Volksmarching Association.

Friends may call 12:30-2 p.m. Feb. 22 at Kinoole Baptist Church; funeral service at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joan Yvonne King to Hawaii Care Choices (formerly Hospice of Hilo).

Survived by husband, Vernon King of Volcano; daughter, Leilani (Robert) Gibson of Portland, Ore.; sons, Brook (Sarah) King of Honolulu, Mark King of Las Vegas; sister, Patricia Houghton of Santa Clara, Calif.; three grandchildren.

Loren St. Clair

Loren Dale St. Clair, 88, of Kurtistown, died Dec. 24, 2019, at his residence. Born in Orofino, Idaho, he was the owner of the former St. Clair Tree Service, member of the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

A celebration of his life will take place from 11 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church. Aloha attire.

Survived by wife, Macky St. Clair of Kurtistown; daughters, Karen Shinohara of Kurtistown, Doreen (Dale) Prohaska of Eagle, Idaho, Teri Peterson of Kurtistown, Frances (Rody) DaSalla of Hilo, Deborah St. Clair of Kurtistown; sons, Michael St. Clair of Kurtistown, Rick (Becky) St. Clair of Gresham, Ore.; brother, Louis St. Clair of Boise, Idaho; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces &nephews.

James Souza

James S. “Jimmy” Souza, 90, of Papaikou died Jan. 7, 2020, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Hilo and was a retired service and parts manager with the former Hilo Motors, a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, charter member and past president of the South Hilo Rotary Club, charter member and first president of the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, member of the Jaycees, Young Men’s Institute (YMI), Court Mauna Kea No. 8854 of the Ancient Order of Foresters, County of Hawaii Planning Commission, Hilo High School Alumni Class of 1947, and a former Hawaii County Councilman where, during his tenure, he initiated the Hele On Bus system.

Visitation 8:15-9:45 a.m. Feb. 22, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Private burial will follow. Casual attire; no flowers.

Survived by son, James (Patricia) Souza, Jr. of Waianae; daughter, Geri (Roth) Pung of Honolulu; one grandson, numerous nieces &nephews.

Simplicio Baldado

Simplicio “Sam” Baldado, 90, of Hilo, died Feb. 10, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 7, 1929, in Hawaii, he was a retired power plant supervisor for Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) and he also was a veteran in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Friends may call Feb. 28 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel, visitation from 9-10:30 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire; burial to follow at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 at noon.

He is survived by wife, Edna Baldado of Hilo; sons, Robert Glenn (Sheila) Baldado of Keaukaha and Dale Kainoa Baldado of Kihei, Maui; brothers, John (Shirley) Baldado of Kealakeua, Quintin (Rufina) Baldado, Jacob Keaweaheulu and James Baldado of Kalaoa Mauka, Hawaii; sisters, Momi (Stanley) Ho of Pearl City, Christine Baldado of Kalaoa Mauka, Hawaii, Josephine (Joseph) Santalles of New Mexico, Magdaline (Li Pabro) Baldado of Wainaku and Doreen Baldado of Keaukaha;two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Conrad Nathaniel

Conrad Alohalani Nathaniel, 89, of Hilo, died Feb. 7, 2020, at Hawaii Care Choices formerly Hospice of Hilo; born on Nov. 13, 1930, in Hilo; he was a retired superintendent at Johnston Atoll and a US Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. He also was a member of the Haili Congregational Church and Choir in Hilo, and additionally he was also affiliated with Hale Lokahi Big Island Learning &Arts Center (BILAC).

Friends may call on Feb. 29 at the Haili Congregational Church in Hilo. Visitation from 9-10 a.m.; service at 10 a.m. Aloha attire; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park (Section 4); luncheon to follow at Haili Congregational Church Gym.

He is survived by daughters, Sweetie (David) Osorio, Cherilynn (Robert) Barrett, Roquel (Kevin) Kahaloa, Corianne (Mark) Kennett and Lorielee (Scott) Guynes of Hawaii; brother, Thomas Nathaniel of California; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
