Eldred Pea

Eldred Kalei Pea, 75, of Hilo died Feb. 8, 2020, at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired sausage maker with the former Miko Meats and continued sausage making after his retirement, a member of the Keaukaha Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, board member of the Keaukaha Panaewa Farmer’s Association and a classical guitar player.

Friends may call 8:30-9:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Hilo Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at the Alae Cemetery (Mormon Section). Casual attire.

He is survived by brothers, George (Janice) Pea and Howard (Charlene) Pea of Hilo and Arthur (LaVina) Pea of Canada; sisters, Ruth Pea, Muncie (Dulan) Pea and Beverly (Kihei) Ahuna, all of Hilo, and Debra (Tom) Tsinnijinnie of Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews.

Alexander Penovaroff Jr.

Alexander “Rooskie” “Oscar” Penovaroff Jr., 84, of Waimea died Dec. 20, 2019, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Hilo, he was the proprietor of AP Water Supply/HIW Hawaii, rancher, quarter horse breeder/trainer/competitor and expert horseman, and a member of The National Cutting Horse Association and The American Quarter Horse Association.

Friends may call from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Mana Christian Church in Waimea for a 10:30 a.m. celebration of life. Casual attire; no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Karoll Penovaroff of Waimea; sons, Vic (Cholae) Penovaroff of Kona and David Febre of Honolulu; daughters, Marva (Ron) Ah Loy, Pier (Joey) Schutte and Tanya Penovaroff, all of Waimea, Kauilani Wilmington and Kaile Kay of Honolulu and Katherine Febre of San Francisco; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.

Zayden Yaplag

Zayden “Bubba” Mark Pascua Yaplag, 7, of Hilo, died Jan. 21, 2020 at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children on Oahu. Born May 17, 2012, in Honolulu, he was a student at Waiakea Waena Elementary School and a member of Apostolic Faith Church in Hilo.

Friends may call 8:30-10 a.m. Feb. 22 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 10 a.m. service; burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Casual attire.

He is survived by, parents, Mark Yaplag and Alisha Pascua of Hilo; brothers, Chayston Yaplag of Hilo and Zander Yaplag of Hilo; great-grandmother, Rita Pascua of Hilo; grandparents, Juan and Abigail Pascua of Hilo and Andrew and Editha Yaplag of Pahoa; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
