Big Island detectives are investigating the discovery of a body in the area where a woman, who was reported missing late Tuesday night, was last seen in the Waikoloa Beach Resort area.

Area II Assistant Chief Robert Wagner confirmed Wednesday morning that detectives were in the area investigating. He didn’t provide additional details, including if the deceased is female or male, but stated “a body was located in the area she went missing.”

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Hawaii Police Department sent a Nixle alert asking for the public’s help locating a missing 41-year-old woman who had last been seen around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lava Lava Beach Club.

Smriti Saxena is described as being 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 102 pounds with a fair complexion and being of Indian descent. She was last seen wearing a black dress with a multi-colored floral design and black jacket, according to police.

Anyone with information on Saxena’s whereabouts is asked to call the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
