Holualoa Village marks first Friday
Holualoa Village galleries will feature new art and artists, tasty street eats and music Friday along Mamalahoa Highway.
The March edition of the monthly Art-After-Dark event is from from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The village block party features art and artists in over a dozen galleries and shops, as well as live music and a great selection of local food vendors. This community event is free, and for all ages.
This month, Robbie Calvo will be making a special appearance, performing on the lanai of MField Gallery. Koa Realty will be hosting event regulars Always Rippin’ Dave Lawrence, and Holualoa Ukulele Gallery will host the Mauka High Notes on their lanai.

COOK presents ‘Mozart and a Movie’
The Chamber Ochestra of Kona presents “Mozart and a Movie” this weekend at Privateer’s Cove Community Center in Kailua-Kona.
Enjoy an hour of orchestral music as The Chamber Orchestra of Kona presents “Mozart and a Movie.” Well-known Mozart themes will be presented as well “One Week,” a Buster Keaton classic silent movie which will accompanied by members of the orchestra.
Performances are slated at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 and students younger than 18 enter free.

Kona Palisades Artists hosting pop-up art gallery
The Kona Palisades Artists Group is hosting its second annual “Spring Pop-up Art Gallery” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the One-Stop Location in the Kona Palisades.
The Kona Palisades Artists Group’s resident artists participating in the one-day event include Stefanie Culbertson, watercolor; Cynthia Hankins, photography; Bill Jaeger, stained glass; Kathleen Jaeger, mosaic, acrylic painting; Heather Mettler, sandblasted glass vessels; Shannon Nakaya, origami; and Maya Sorum, watercolor, jewelry.
The One-Stop Spring Pop-Up Art Gallery will be located on Holoholo Street just a few hundred feet south of Kiminani Drive. Signs will be posted.

Ohrlandos Chamber Ensemble slates performances
Ohrlandos Chamber Ensemble has slated performances on March 15 and 22 at a private residence in Kailua-Kona.
The ensemble includes Roland Maurer, oboe, oboe d’amore and bassoon, and Ursula Hesse, on harpsichord. In this program, the enemble will present compositions by composers from countries not usually associated with Baroque to include Adam Jarzebski, Helmich Roman, Vaclay Vodicka, and others.
Both performances are slated for 3 p.m. A $20 donation is suggested.

Kona Choral Society welcomes Stanford Chamber Chorale
Kona Choral Society and the Stanford University Chamber Chorale will offer a joint concert on March 28 at Makaeo Events Pavilion in Kailua-Kona.
Hailed as “one of the country’s premiere collegiate ensembles” by Robert Schuneman, the late president of music publishing house E.C. Schirmer, the Stanford Chamber Chorale is the Stanford Department of Music’s most select choir. Directed by Stephen M. Sano, the group is dedicated to the performance of literature best suited to the small choral ensemble.
Admission to the concert that gets underway at 4 p.m. is free.
Kona Aloha Singers announces spring concert
The Kona Aloha Singers, a nonprofit pop/rock music chorus launched in 2019, announces its spring concert, “Pop ‘n Rock Music.” The 4 p.m. performance will be held May 3 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel and features Artistic Director Misty Mistler.
KAS will sing music from Ed Sheeran, Pentatonix, Queen, The Beach Boys, Abba and more.
“Attendees will enjoy familiar songs performed with the beautiful blending of voices unique to choral music accompanied by several musicians,” said Ilene Harrington of KAS.
Mistler, KAS artistic director and 30-year Kona resident, was trained classically at a very early age. She mastered the French horn and became a guest child artist with major symphonies. By age 12, she played numerous instruments including guitar. To put herself through college and dental school, Mistler played and sang in coffee houses and with the band “Sebastian.” She opened her own dental office in Fairbanks, Alaska and helped many underprivileged children with free dental care. Mistler continues to perform and has sung in numerous choruses and acapella choirs, played with her band “Expresso” here in Kona and entertains around Kona and at private events.
KAS accompanist Gloria Juan received her music degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and retired in late 2019 after 40-plus years of teaching ukulele and chorus at Kealakehe Intermediate School. Along with accompanying the Kona Aloha Singers, she assists the youth and adult choruses for the Kona Choral Society and is a rehearsal and performance accompanist for the Aloha Performing Arts Center. Juan also heads the music ministry for the Kona United Methodist Church.
