A high surf advisory has been posted for east-facing shores of Hawaii Island through Sunday morning.

Wave heights of 6 to 10 feet are forecast for east-facing shores of the Big Island’s northern, southern, and eastern coasts, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory will remain posted through Sunday morning.

Forecasters in Honolulu said Friday that increasing trade winds will produce elevated, rough surf along east-facing shores through this weekend. The surf is expected build overnight and hold through Saturday.

A new north-northeast swell will fill in late Saturday and will likely continue to bring elevated surf along east-facing shores through Sunday, forecasters said.

“Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. If in doubt, do not go out,” forecasters cautioned.
