Windy conditions are forecast for the Big Island through Saturday afternoon.
A high wind warning is in effect for leeward Kohala areas and a wind advisory is in effect for the rest of the Big Island and state through 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
High pressure far north of the islands will support strong to locally damaging trade winds through Saturday, with winds gradually weakening thereafter, forecasters said.
Northeast winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts topping 50 mph are forecast for all Hawaiian Islands, with the exception of the Mauna Loa and Maunakea summits on the Big Island and Haleakala on Maui. Leeward Kohala areas could see 30 to 40 mph winds with gusts over 60 mph.
Motorists, especially those in high-profile vehicles, are urged to drive with caution. Forecasters also advised people to secure trash cans, lawn furniture, and other loose objects that can easily be blown around by strong wind gusts.
