Basque’s four RBIs lead Konawaena baseball over Kohala, 15-4

After just the first game of the year, the Konawaena Wildcats are on track for another fantastic BIIF Division II season.

Konawaena’s Drew Basque had four RBIs, including a two-run homerun in the third inning, and the Wildcats (1-0) won 15-4 over Kohala on Saturday in Kealakekua in the Wildcats’ opening game.

The Wildcats’ starting pitcher Jaimison Medeiros recorded the win after two innings pitched with no hits allowed and two strikeouts.

Konawaena got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first, after Kohala starting pitcher Gideon Rabang allowed four runs. The Wildcats would end up scoring eight total runs in the first inning. Rabang recorded the loss for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys were able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, as Jordan Alejandro singled to right field to score Isaiah Castillo. The next batter, Aukea Ka‘aekuahiwi grounded out to score Legend Libron to make the score 13-2 Konawaena.

Basque’s homerun, the only one of the game, came after, in the bottom the third inning, scoring Ethan Yamaguchi.

Quentin Hook was 1-2 with two RBIs for the Cowboys (0-2).

The Wildcats’ Kaden Baptista was 2-4 with one RBI.
