Tomie Honda

Tomie Honda, 96, of Captain Cook, died Feb. 29, 2020, at her residence. Born Jan. 24, 1924, in Honaunau, she was a housewife and member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and Kumamoto Kenjin Kai.

Private services held.

She is survived by daughters, Carol Honda of Captain Cook and Ruth Honda of Honolulu; son, Harry Honda Jr. of Honolulu; sisters, Satsue Tanaka of Honolulu and Toyoko Urada of Captain Cook; brother, Akikazu (Suemi) Matsumoto of Kaneohe, Oahu; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Veronica Jenkin

Veronica “Ronnie” Lam Loy Ho Jenkin, 80, of Hilo, died March 5, 2020, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. She was born May 8, 1939, in Ookala.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by daughter, Aileen (Ralph) Crum of Hilo; brothers, Manuel Ah Choy of Honolulu, Oahu, Ernest (Annie Mae) Ah Choy of Honolulu, Oahu, Joseph Ah Choy of Papaaloa, Stephen Ah Choy of Hilo, Richard (Chris) Ah Choy of Germany and Raymond Ah Choy of Hilo; sister, Alice De Luz of Paauilo; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rainer Bender

Rainer Bender, 78, of Keaau, died March 10, 2020 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born July 11, 1941, in Kassel, Germany, he was a retired Hawaii County Police Department officer, a retired security officer working at Hilo Pier and Hilo International Airport, a U.S. Army veteran and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by sister, Lilo Santos of Hilo; sister-in-law, Carmen (Dino) Canda of Keaau; nieces and nephews.
