Severo Ramirez

Severo “Slim” Ramirez, 95, of Mountain View, died Feb. 21, 2020, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Aug. 9, 1924, in Lussoc, Santo Domingo, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a retired welding supervisor and welder for the former Hilo Coast Processing Company and a co-owner of the former Mountain View Village Store.

Celebration of life at a later date.

He is survived by son, Steven Ramirez of Las Vegas; daughters, Carla (James) Venable of Mountain View, Shelley (George) Karvas of Hilo; sisters, Dominga Agbannawag of Pahoa, Tomasa Tara and Dionicia Ramirez of the Philippines; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Juanita Ramirez

Juanita Ramirez, 86, of Mountain View, died Feb. 22, 2020, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born March 28, 1933, in Waiakea Uka, she was a retired co-owner of the former Mountain View Village Store, had worked for the former Food Fair Supermarket, Hilo Dry Goods and Hilo Drug Company and was a member of Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Saint Theresa Catholic Church Choir and Holy Rosary Catholic Church Choir.

She is survived by son, Steven Ramirez of Las Vegas; daughters, Carla (James) Venable of Mountain View, Shelley (George) Karvas of Hilo; brothers, Clemente (Doris) Castro of Honolulu, Fernando (Marilani) Castro of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Margarita De Curtis of Champagne, Ill., Martina (Ralph) Atkins of Rome, Ga., Carmena (Walter) Otomo of Hilo; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
