Big Island police arrest 3 for suspected DUI

Hawaii Island police arrested three motorists for suspected drunken driving between March 23 and Sunday. None of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash.

Kona, South Kohala and South Hilo officers arrested one motorist in each district, according to data released Monday by the Hawaii Police Department.

So far this year, there have been 262 DUI arrests compared with 294 during the same period last year, according to police. There have been 228 major accidents so far this year compared with 243 during the same period last year.

Seven fatalities have been recorded on Hawaii Island’s public roadways through Sunday, police said. By this time in 2019, three people had perished.
