Police investigating reported stabbing in Hilo

Detectives are investigating a reported stabbing early Friday in Downtown Hilo.

At approximately 12:52 a.m., Hawaii Police Department officers assigned to South Hilo Patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Punahoa Street and Furneaux Lane for a report of a man that had been stabbed.

The 54-year-old victim was bleeding heavily and appeared to have injuries consistent with stab wounds, according to police. He was transported via ambulance to the Hilo Medical Center Emergency Room where he later underwent surgery. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.
