State health officials on Saturday announced a fourth COVID-19-related death in Hawaii as the number of presumptive or confirmed positive cases topped 350.
The victim, an East Oahu resident over age 65, died Saturday morning, the Department of Health said. The man may have contracted coronavirus after having been exposed a person who had recently traveled.
“He had been hospitalized,” an update from the Hawaii COVID-19 Joint Information Center said. “The Department of Health offers its deep condolences to the family and friends of the individual at this difficult and sad time.”
Meanwhile, two minors were among the 32 new cases of COVID-19 being reported Saturday bringing the statewide total of confirmed or presumptive cases to 351. Statewide, 12,962 individuals have been tested by state and private labs.
Hawaii County reported two new cases Saturday, bringing the island’s total to 22. Six of those have people have since recovered and been released from isolation. There have been no hospitalizations or deaths from the disease on the Big Island.
Meanwhile, the City and County of Honolulu reported 29 new cases, bringing the island’s total to 266. Maui and Kauai counties each reported two new cases with total cases reaching 38 and 15 respectively.
“The majority of cases reported since tracking began on Feb. 28 are related to travel,” the update reads, noting that 12 of the cases announced Saturday and 184 to date were travel-related.
However, community spread cases are adding up with 20 cases to date, including one new case identified Saturday.
The “risk factor” in 19 cases announced Saturday and 147 of the total cases remains unknown.
On Friday, as the state’s 14-day mandatory self-quarantine order for all out-of-state and interisland travelers continued, 628 people arrived in Hawaii, including 94 visitors and 239 residents, up slightly from Thursday.
Kona International Airport saw 27 people arrive via just one flight. Of those, 17 reported being residents; six declared being intended residents; two reported being visitors and two were crew.
