Cynthia Cerny

Cynthia Jean Cerny, 61, of Pahoa died March 8, 2020, at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she was a claims specialist with the County of Hawaii.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sisters, Lynda (Steve) Hirakami of Kalapana, Adele (Tim de Silva) Cerny of Hilo, Stephanie (Robert) Bishop of Poland, Ohio, Joyce (John) Clark of Fremont, Ohio, Patricia (Doug) Cushard of Niles, Ohio; brother, John (Terry) Cerny of Jeromesville, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.

Iva Goldman

Iva Rogers Black Goldman, 88, of Hilo died March 12, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, she was an associate professor of communications at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and a member of the Church of the Holy Apostles in Hilo.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by husband, Mark Goldman of Hilo; daughters, Robin Black of Hilo, Liat (Thomas) Bearden of Ninole and Sarah Goldman of Orchidland; brothers, Jim Rogers of Grand Junction, Colorado and Richard (Sylvia) Rogers of River Forest, Illinois; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby Malani

Ruby Leilani Malani, 82, of Hilo, died March 25, 2020 at Pohai Malama. Born May 17, 1937, in Hawaii, she was a retired cafeteria worker and a member of Haili Church Choir, Laupahoehoe Congregational Church, and Alu Like Kupuna Program.

Private services held.

She is survived by son, Clement (Regina) Malani Jr. of Hilo; Cynthia (Calvin) Malani of Hilo, Catherine (Todd) Kaide of Hilo, Carol Malani of Hilo, hanai daughter, Piilani Mahoe of Honolulu; sister, Laverne Sylva of Kona; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous cousins.

Thomas Sullivan Jr.

Thomas Ambrose Sullivan Jr., 69, of Honokaa, died March 24, 2020, at his residence. Born in San Francisco, he was a former real estate agent.

He is survived by siblings, Ann (David) Wray, Bob (Adrianna) Sullivan, and Pat (Dagmar) Sullivan; numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Silva

Patricia “Patsy” Carvalho Silva, 89, of Keaau, died March 28, 2020, at a private care home. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker, a child care provider, worked at St. Joseph School Cafeteria, and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pahoa.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by sons, Paul (Madeline) Silva of Keaau and John (Theresa) Silva of Hawaiian Beaches; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
