Hawaii Gas is warning all Hawaii residents to be aware of COVID-19-related utility bill scams.

Hawaii Gas said Thursday it has received reports of scam phone calls requesting payments on gas bills and threatening to shut off gas service.

“Hawaii Gas would like to remind its customers and the public that Hawaii Gas does not call to collect payments over the phone,” the utility said in a press release. “Anyone who receives a call of this nature should hang up and call Hawaii Gas directly. Island-specific phone numbers are listed in the attached news release.”

The company noted it will not be interrupting their gas service through April 30. Customers who are experiencing financial difficulties can call the Hawaii Gas Customer Care Team from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday though Friday to discuss payment plan options.
