Kahilu Theatre recently announced it will remain closed to the public for an additional month.

Executive Director Deb Goodwin and Artistic Director Chuck Gessert, in a message to the Kahilu Ohana, said the Waimea theater and its programs will be suspended through May 31. A decision on summer programs has yet to be made.

“We just made the difficult decision for Kahilu Theatre to remain closed to the public through the month of May,” the message attributed to Goodwin and Gessert reads. “Our summer programs are cautiously on hold and in parallel we are seeking numerous ways to sustain our organization.”

They said the theater, which has been closed since March 14, is receiving “much-needed financial support to help us in the months ahead” from friends of Kahilu Theatre.

“Our heartfelt thanks to enduring friends of Kahilu Theatre: Kate Bell and Tom Blackburn, Marsha and Tom Kerley, and Mimi and Brian Kerley,” Goodwin and Gessert said in the message.
